We read about this in the AAA book. It's in Tacoma Chihuly's hometown. After seeing the Chihuly exhibit in Seattle we just had to see this. One big reason we had to stop is because it's free. We were there in the morning when the sun was just right. The weather was sunny and gorgeous. We had a hard time finding how to get into the Museum of Glass to park. We must have made six to eight attempts before we got it right. Lots of roads lots of exit ramps and we always didn't end up where we thought we were going but we saw a lot of the area that way.
We did have to pay for parking. We would have liked to have gone to the Museum of Glass. But we just didn't think we had the time. I can see going back to Tacoma and staying two or three nights.
We noticed Chihuly glass hanging in the window of what used to be Union Station and now it is the federal courthouse. So, once we cross the bridge we went into the federal courthouse. They had to check our IDs but we saw more artwork by Chihuly inside the courthouse.
It's possible that people who live in Tacoma have never even been here so get out and explore. If you're going through Tacoma find a coma or around Tacoma do stop here...
Read moreThe other must visit tourist attraction, other than Pike Place Market, whilst visiting Seattle is Chihuly Garden & Glass. Artist or not, you would definitely be fascinated and amazed by so many amazing lively and pretty colorful glass arts & scultures on display, as well as artwork ingeniously blended with the surrounding environment or architecture. You probably never seen such jaw dropping masterpieces before in your life time.
Dale Chihuly is an Washington native who probably pioneered and popularized the glass art and its new form in America since 1960s. His work is unconventional in that he pioneered a way to make use of centrifugal force or gravity to shape or mould the glass into many desired new impressive forms, not following the traditional preference for symmetrical art or perfectly smooth surface appearance. General admission (galleries, glasshouse, garden)costs in the range of USD 35-40, with discount for youth and senior.

Read moreI am not a connoisseur of glass or the art form, though this was an unexpected treat. We went into Tacoma specifically to checkout this museum and the history museum. Though time didn't allow for both, and unfortunately there was no carryover for the admittance price of one place to the other. I suspect they would both get more visitors if they did. I think it was $18 per person. That said they had a large collection of antique glass vases to include the Art Deco, some phenomenal sea inspired glass sculptures from multiple artists. My favorite pieces where by Raven Skyriver. And the icing on the cake is the Hot Glass Studio where you can see the live demonstration of blown glass pieces that you can actually purchase as souvenirs. They encourage questions from the audience if you want to know more about...
