Not that Cancun isn't worth it, but Tampa offers better value for your money.

I went for two nights for the independence day holiday. I parked by valet and was greeted immediately by a bellhop, who directed me to the front desk. Derek greeted me, acknowledged my platinum status, and gave me a very nice water view room on the 22nd floor. The room had two double beds, a 40 inch tv, and a small seating area. The beds were very comfortable and I slept quite well. The TV had various channels to enjoy, and had Netflix, YouTube, and other apps for streaming. There was a coffee maker with illy coffee, but we took advantage at the executive lounge again. The windows were almost floor to ceiling and had a nice view of the bay and pool area. We were able to watch the fireworks directly from the window. The bathroom was clean and had a door to separate the toilet from the sink and shower area. The shower had the perfect water temperature and good water pressure. There was shampoo, conditioner, and body wash by Aromatherapy Associates, which was nicely lavender scented. There were ample towels, and they were fluffy enough to dry you quickly. There were two bathrobes in the closet as well. The public areas are very inviting and pretty upscale. The pool deck at the sixth floor was very popular and large enough for many people to swim with ample space. The gym was large and had various equipment, but lacked exercise balls I was looking for. However, the Marriott next door did and since the hotels are connected to each other, we were allowed to share the gyms and pools. The lobby area was relaxing, and had live music on various days. The executive lounge was on the 5th floor, and was quite large for an American hotel. Breakfast had ample offerings, and were delicious. During the night, there was an honor bar (cocktails for 12 dollars), and nice hors d'oeuvres. There were rack of lamb and artichoke for hot food when I was there. Later on, dessert was offered and I enjoyed the red velvet cake. During the weekend, the lounge was closed. However I was able to enjoy a very nice breakfast buffet at the anchor and brine restaurant. I enjoyed a donut, omelette, and even bread pudding. The juices and coffees were refreshing too. The destination fee was 30 dollars per night, but included 30 dollars worth of food and drinks at some of JW and Marriott restaurants, so it can pay for itself. It also includes liquor tastings during the afternoon. I enjoyed Loma, which had great tequila and strong drinks. I also ate at Six, which had a nice old fashioned and also made a tasty delicious chicken burger for me. While the hotel restaurants can be pricey, it is worth the price. The service is top notch. Almost every staff goes above and beyond to make the stay and experience memorable. Derek from the front desk took the time to explain all the amenities and inclusions of the hotel fees. Michael and another Derek at Six made nice drinks and talked well with their guests. The valet parking was 40 dollars per night, but was quick, helpful, and convenient. The concierge gave good advice on attractions and restaurants, and welcomed new attraction suggestions. The JW Marriott in Downtown Tampa is one of the best hotels I have stayed in Florida and the USA. The rooms are very comfortable, the food delicious, and the staff very helpful. It definitely deserves the AAA 4 diamond status, and other awards it received. While it is expensive, it is definitely worth a nice splurge for a weekend getaway.

Everything was a 10! The J Dub never disappoints, but this experience was by far the best. I have always viewed the Ritz Carlton as the top tier Marriott brand, but JW Tampa takes it! From the valet experience to the checkout, we were treated with the highest level of service. Check-in was efficient, and we received details about the many amenities offered. We were offered cold bottled waters and asked if we needed water and ice sent up to the room. There is a daily resort fee that includes several activities, including a round trip water taxi ride, bicycle rentals, and more. There is a market and restaurants if you never want to leave, you don't have to. The executive lounge, located on the fifth floor, has breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, wine/beer, desserts....you name it. The lounge attendant was super nice and welcoming and made suggestions about the available items. She remembered us daily and made the stay special. We stayed in the king suite on the 23rd floor. The view was phenomenal! The room was spacious and beautiful. The attention to detail sets the bar for the hospitality industry. The bathroom not only came with the usual toiletries but had everything needed for grooming and relaxing. I mean, they even had Epsom salt for the deep tub...loved it! They have a water and chocolate service at night. Housekeeping kept our beds turned and our room cleaned throughout our stay. I appreciate the ease of the experience as well. The location is cashless. We were able to tip our housekeeper through a QR code. Nice! The service in the restaurant was perfect as well. They offered a copy of the Washington Post while I had my hot tea and breakfast in the morning. I can't say that I have ever read the actual paper. I normally read it from my phone. It felt good to disconnect and enjoy myself. The food was fresh and prepared with quality ingredients. The build your own omelet was my favorite. The location is perfect for the Tampa area. We were 15 minutes away from the best restaurants and centrally located to many activities and events downtown. The JW team worked flawlessly together to deliver a world-class experience. I travel frequently and booked this trip to spend quality time with my son. We had so many plans and enjoyed our trip. What stood out was when we were wrapping up our adventure one evening, he said, "I can't wait to get back to our hotel. It's the best." I have stayed at some of the nicest hotels in different countries; this experience was beyond memorable. And that is why I'm a Marriott girl for life!

I was expecting world class service and they provided. I was looking forward to this trip for awhile and the staff did everything they could to make my stay wonderful. I got an upgraded room on the 25th floor overlooking the Amalie Arena and the view was breathtaking, especially at night. The bathroom was very impressive. High end soaps and a very nice expresso machine. The technology in the room is up to date, mobile key worked flawlessly (which is always hit or miss). One detail I loved was the fact that the moment I walked in the door though there was a small line to check in, a gentleman went up to me and offered me a water while I wait. I love little details like that. The location is great. The traffic however is not. Especially when we checked out in the morning there was traffic in front of the hotel that was making it difficult for the valet to get the vehicles and the trolley out front doesn't help when people are trying to turn into the hotel and sit in front of the tracks. However, the valet guys were doing everything they could in a stressful situation and have my car a lot quicker than I thought it would be. The negatives would be the fact that I asked what time the pool closes and they told me 10:00 p.m. but didn't mention that there a Summit conference staying at the hotel and when I went to the pool I was told by the person running the conference that they had booked the entire pool area for the night even though they were not using the pool. This should not be allowed at a hotel, especially a high-end hotel where people pay a lot of money. This is what conference rooms are for. Even though it's sillyfor the pool to be closed for a group, they still should have let every guest checking in that the pool would be closed.. At the very least. Other than that, everything was great.
