This isn’t our typical Arizona based content…but we took an 18 day trip to explore Maine this summer, and it deserves a quick mention as an amazing, family friendly, must visit state! Why Maine? Well, it was a new state for the whole family, we love beaches, it sounded like a great place to escape to from the blazing Phoenix summer - and $250/person round trip airline tickets is hard to resist. We stayed in three different Airbnbs, in Windham (near Portland), Blue Hill (near Bar Harbor), and Jonesport, (in Downeast Maine). All three were lovely, highly recommend, especially @parker.house.maine in Blue Hill if you’re looking for a historical experience. What did we do? So much, and not enough. We barely scratched the surface in exploring Maine! Some of our highlights were: 🦞 Seashore Trolley Museum (Kennebunkport) 🦞 lobster tour with Lucky Catch Cruises, then take a live lobster to Portland Lobster Company and they will cook it for you (Portland) 🦞 blueberry picking at Crabtree Farm (Sebago) 🦞 hop across to New Hampshire and swim/hike/kayak at White Lake State Park (Tamworth) 🦞 potato donuts at The Holy Donut (Portland) 🦞 Portland Head Lighhouse + two others nearby, Spring Point Ledge was our favorite 🦞 Old Fort Western (Augusta) 🦞 Acadia National Park, we explored here 3.5 days and it was amazing (Bar Harbor) 🦞 walk across to Bar Island at low tide (Bar Harbor) 🦞Penobscot Marine Museum (Searsport) 🦞Roque Bluffs State Park 🦞 nature tour (whales, eagles, porpoises, and more) with Downeast Charter Boat (Lubec) 🦞Quoddy Head State Park (Lubec) 🦞 walk across to Bar Island at low tide, just south of Sandy River Beach (Jonesport) 🦞nature center in Calais, then walk across a bridge to St. Stephens, New Brunswick (passport needed) and tour The Chocolate Museum 🦞 so many beach walks, finding crabs and seashells and sea glass, admiring the crashing waves, building sandcastles If you need more inspiration, definitely follow @visitmaine and @travelingmainers , which gave us so many ideas. Also, @bigbravenomad has the best guide to Acadia National Park, and saved us many hours of planning.

My girlfriend and I went there, it's your typical state park. Check in from 1-8pm, check out 11am, bundles of wood for $6 (2 bundles lasted us a night considering fires out by 11:30). They have a nice shallow lake that the public can go to during the day til 8pm-ish. Then we went down and it was so nice and peaceful, so that's when we went swimming. If you camp there and don't like the crowds, walk down the path past the store and there is plenty of secluded spots where you can swim and relax. They rent boats (canoe, kayak, paddle boat) buy be careful when you go and rent. They told us they rent to a certain time and we went down to rent one and they had closed the store and rental place about 2 hours early, no sign or anything, it was the really the only disappointing part of the trip. Also be careful where you choose your campsite, in campground area 1 along the west side runs a public road, we had spot 80A and their map doesn't show it but there is a road not even 100' away from our tent, so we heard cars passing. Luckily we live on a main road and it didn't bother us at all. But I definitely recommend this place and if you can reserve a spot in campground in 3, in the "W" section, best spots, close together but if you have a large group of people it's perfect. Oh and the have all the amenities on site bathrooms and such. But if you can't live without dunkins, there is one right outside the entrance to the park. Happy Camping

The park was easy to find and the entrance is conveniently close to entertainment and shopping. When we arrived check-in was simple. When we found our campsite, there was already a tent there. We did not see any people or a car near the site so we informed the office. They were very polite and understanding of both parties. Although there no contact information could be found for the owners of the other tent, the staff respected their property by placing a note and waiting for them to show up rather than just confiscating it. They were also respectful of us, by accompanying us to the zone and offering firewood as compensation for our short wait. We set up our tent near the other and walked the magnificent trail around the lake. At the end of the walk, the tent was gone and we were free to establish our camp. I thought the conflict resolution was perfect. Everyone was kind. We are currently watching the sun set on the lake from our campsite. You will love this campground and all it's amenities.

This is the absolute least understanding and worst place to camp. Overpriced crowded. We came not knowing pets weren’t allowed and when we were told we explained our situation, and they said it wasn’t a problem if we got them Off the premises so we did.

The next day two different people (Dana and Paul) came back and we had the dogs in the back of the truck and were just putting the kids in the trailer to eat and sleep while planning on driving the truck off their campus. Just exactly what the ranger the previous night told us was fine to do.

The security this night followed us and kicked us out. It was 8pm. Our kids were crying.

This was not what was communicated to us by the last staff they said it wouldn’t be an issue. The man on this night thought he had told us to leave this morning. In no way did we understand that was what he was trying to communicate this morning.

He was not at all flexible to the situation no matter how much we explained begged or pleaded and called the police and kicked us out with A five year old and three year old who had nothing to eat.

He only replied to Our situation with ‘not My problem’. There’s nothing good to be said about people like that. Absolutely non understanding staff. They will never have my money again, and I will be sure to let everyone I know never to stay.

Never again. Good riddance. Spend your money in twin mountain. There are lakes galore where no egos are there monitoring you and there are camp rangers that actually have the creativity and flexibility to make everyone’s experience good. We won’t get our $150 back because this man feels he is 100% ok with what he did. Zero understanding for what was previously communicated to us. Both Dana and Paul and A real class act

I hope they reach out to rectify the misunderstanding and at least apologize for not being clear in the first place. If they do I can delete this review. In the meantime as long as this is still there they have not bothered and do not feel the need to upkeep good customer service with their business.

Update: no one has ever reached out to us. We spent the night in a rest area on the highway. Heartless...

The manager never seems friendly, always look grumpy. I had bad experienced the last time was there. So I went camping with family for 2 weeks , it because my husband and I didnt know that there is a policy for how many days we allow to stay so on that 2 weeks it was horrible weather. But after the 2 weeks all the sudden it was beautiful day so I decided to stay 3 or 4 more days...just me and kids but not my husband because he has work. So first 2 weeks i went to office to extended and the manager was ok with it...not until the next day came back all the sudden the manager look angry at me and said she never knew that I already stay for over 2 weeks , if she knew she wont let me stay with her pissed face showing toward me. ( SHE IS THE MANAGER, SUPPOSEDLY TRACKING ALL THE PEOPLE THERE EACHDAY FOR HOWLONG THEY ALREADY BEEN STAYING IN THEIR CAMPSITE, NOT EMBERASSING CUSTOMERS JUST BECAUSE MAYBE I LOOK ASIAN SMSHHHHH).but i told her i have no help if have to leave that day at least 1 more day until i call my husband to come and help with me and kids( 3 small kids). ! Some staff are friendly but SOME are not ( they act like they own the campground). Not only the staff but I used to love this area but now the bathroom always clog and dirty. PLEAS TAMWORTH CITY,,,, POLITELY talk to the staff that you HIRED to be friendly, WELCOME PEOPLE AND TALK TO CAMPERS MORE POLITELY. Why always talked to campers specially not white from some of my friends experiences also. . . Not friendly. We Pay to Stay....itS NOT FREE.....! Specially the Manager....more than Dover area only that went there saying the same thing about the manager always look GRUmpy n unhappy to greet . FiX this, cause White lake is is supposed to be a nice place to go and...

We stopped here for a night on our get a way to break up traveling. The sites seem pretty decent in size and come with a longer picnic table and fire ring. Some sites even have fallen trees to help mark them out! We camped in area 1 at site 57 and it was 2 sites down from the main restrooms with a short walk to the water area. The rangers walked around at the curfew time, which was helpful to keep down the noise and make it family friendly. Everyone was super helpful at check in and the store was stocked with cool items to make your trip more fun filled. The cons are definitely the bathrooms (every bathroom!), the crowd size at the beach, and no cell service (they do have pay phones but apparently no one born after 1990 knows what the strange things is). The bathrooms are outdated, the toilets barely flush at all, the faucets are UK style, the showers are quarters but very dirty like old mildew from 1999 that was partying with Prince live in concert, and the bathrooms have 5 stalls with one being handicap. The crowd size at the beach was pure insanity! Like everyone from Epping to Jefferson was out on holiday BBQing, but it is a big space (still feels like the water was a lot warmer than normal and noticed people were not going up to the loo after 4 cups of "mommy juice"). Cell service is nil in the entire park, outside the park, even at Dunkin, probably okish when you get 3 miles out. Highly recommend wearing showers shoes and then disinfect them after a...
