This theater is NOT very well kept up, it is always dirty and the seats just collapse when you sit on them. . The screens are small, I mean SMALL. Sure the price is less than other theaters but they also charged me for my 8 month old! Other theaters would not do that. The concessions are SERIOUSLY over priced. The candy is just the basic candy size you would get from Wal-Mart for 59 cents yet they charge the same as a normal theater. 2.50 - 3.00 a pop! The popcorn is usually stale , mainly because it isn't real movie popcorn but popcorn popped in a boring old popcorn machine with no butter, again, the popcorn is expensive as for the price the size is smaller than a more commercial theater. They can claim they are cheaper all they want but everything is at least half the size of a larger , nicer theater for maybe 25 cents less. In my opinion you are paying more for less when you get half for pretty much the same price.
The people at the counter are usually teenagers that joke around a play like they are at home not like they are representing a business. You pay for your movie and concessions at the same time and more than once they have over charged me on their outdated cash register. Sometimes I would swear they were just typing in whatever.
Nobody posts anything because the theater offers freebie movies during the summer. In my opinion they have to because if they didn't nobody would come and pay to see a movie here. I think locals do it out of guilt or because they don't know any better. I will take my kids to this theater because they don't like the 20 minute drive to a better theater (there is a 1.00 movie 20 minutes from Taylor) but I would never waste a date night with my husband here.
Also they do not support local causes at all. I know several people in Town (and a few in Hutto) who have contacted them in some way or another about some pretty important causes. And they do nothing to show their support. They will not even put up flyers. Even the worst business in Taylor will put up flyers! Not that they are obligated to do so but they call themselves a community theater. In a normal situation a "community" theater would support their community. Especially since the Howard "claims" to support the community.
As far as the savings Howard claims I save about 10 bucks when I go here if I am NOT going to a Matinee. I can find Matinees cheaper than the Howard (Howard is all shows, all ages 5.00). NONE of which will charge me for a baby who sleeps through the movie (on the days the baby comes I only save about 5 bucks). But when you consider the candy is TRIPLE the size of the Howard's for only 25 cents more you aren't really saving a thing. Really, you are getting ripped off because you get less and have a not so great and UNCOMFORTABLE movie experience. I would rather pay the extra 10 bucks and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt is a nice comfortable place to spend a few hours. The releases are always current. The staff is friendly. I saw that some people were complaining about the concession prices. Most of the movie ticket pricing goes to the studios. All theaters have a good mark up on their concessions. It is where they make their money. Employees, electric to cool/heat that big area, rental on the building. Not enough people are going to even cover their basic expenses. I will really miss them if they close down. I am a regular about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUsually we go here since it's so convenient. I got off work got the kids and dinner and rushed there to make the 630 showing. We showed up at 643 and were told since it has been 30 minutes we couldn't purchase tickets. I am not happy because it hadn't even been 30 minutes. Try telling two kids they can't go in the movie and to come back at 930. Like I'm really going to drag them out at 930? Kind of a disappointment since it was supposed to be a treat for the kids being...
