Any port in a storm? Well, maybe. But this one really tests that old adage! While cruising one segment of the loop with some friends, we found ourselves needing to be near the Philadelphia airport to fly out. Not a lot of Marina choices that were easily or reliably accessible by Uber, and with the rental car shortage, we decided to run upriver and dock at the Anchorage Marina. I guess the best way to describe it is, its what you don't know that should scare you. The dock is full of older vessels which in it of itself is not an issue, but many appear to be not maintained or abandoned, and many were not properly tied for the storm that came through the night we were on the boat. There were boats in the marina that obviously had been damaged and were aground on the shoreline of the marina, and one was even sunk in place in one of the slips; it became visible at low tide. Our biggest concern would be how well the marina's critical infrastructure is maintained. When we arrived, neither of the two 50 amp services had proper voltage, but to the marina's credit, there was a young man that was able to rewire a box or two downline, and our service was up and running within the hour. One of the main approach runways for the Philadelphia international airport is directly in line with this marina. There were 300-ft fly-bys all day. You do get somewhat used to them, but if this is something that bothers you, don't dock here. The floating docks are also narrow and not very stable. We were on an outside T-dock, and the walk to the mainland took some balance and coordination as the docks would rock as they were walked. Would we come again? Not unless we absolutely had to. The good news? They say any day on a boat with good friends is a good day, and this was...

Security is good. The Delaware River is fast moving between 3 and 6 knots that makes docking a true thrill ride. Anchorage is the only Marina south of Philadelphia supplying pay at the pump gas only, no diesel. Management is elusive and something to be desired. No storage, lift or ramp. Rates are kinda competitive. The Marina sits directly in the path of the Airports Runway which is visible from the Marina. Airliners fly no more than 300 feet overhead 24/7 which can be...
Read moreSince Covid places to get fuel for our boat are few and far between. We found Anchorage about a week ago. We took the opportunity to go there today. Although they were closed they do have after hour fuel capability. This was a welcome sight considering we were getting low. The marina is large and offers water and electric hook ups at each berth. The fueling area is well layer out and has plenty of room to dock. We will definitely keep this spot in mind the next time we are near there...
