We went on our second "Covered Bridge Tour" today, and this was one of four that we sought out. Stunning to behold. Covered bridges are such wonderful "time machines" that make you think of the horses and carriages that traversed them before all of the cars. This one was right under our noses for so long. We just needed to "stab west" from the Delaware a bit more and we would have found this gem. This one in particular spans the Delaware Canal itself, which makes it, I believe, the only covered bridge in the region to do so. Wonderful. And the winding, single-lane road that snakes its way up the hillside after the bridge is a treat to drive. Well worth the visit.

One of the pretties bridges in Bucks county - traditional Red and White with the historical signage at the entrance. This one is unique as it goes over the canal and towpath. Also is in a very little community - fair warning little to NO parking spots (other than pulling over on the side once you have gone through the bridge heading East)!!!

Nothing more than a covered bridge. If you're from Upper Bucks County area like I am you almost take them for granted. This one is on the across the river from Frenchtown, Nj and the action as far as things to do is on that side of the river. With that if you find yourself in that area it's worth a walk/ bike ride if your on the towpath or a drive to walk across it. If your feeling spry you could ride your bike across it and up Uhlerstown Hill Rd. The same with driving up the hill. It's steep with only enough room for one car and no guard rail. It does drop about 200 feet from the road down to the bottom so don't put a wheel wrong in the car or on the bike. Otherwise it's worth a visit to see one of Bucks County's...

Apparently this and Erwinna covered bridge can be accessed by Tinicum Park. We love the location of both, even though neither have a place to pull off. We mistakenly took Uhlerstown Hill Road, which, because of its steep incline and the width of about a lawnmower, was one of the most terrifying roads I have ever driven on. No guard rails, folks. But the road leads up to a surprising slice...
