C-A-L Ranch Stores — Attraction in Tooele

I never had any issues with chicks that I've bought here before until now. I finally saved up some money this last Sunday 09/08/2024 to buy a few of the expensive Lavender Orpingtons that I wanted since last year. However, one of the chicks had a pasty vent & I failed to think much of it after noticing this once I had gotten them home to my coop. When I got off work on 09/10/2024 I saw that the chick had a swollen butt & was unable to lay or sit down even though she was very lethargic. All the other chicks appeared to be fine. I called C-A-L Ranch but the telephone connection had a lot of static. I told the cashier my problem. C-A-L Ranch only has a 24 hr. refund window for any chicks no matter the circumstance or how expensive! The cashier was very nice, but told me not to bring the chick in. She did tell me to leave the chick home & come in to talk to the manager & they would try to honor a replacement. I took a couple of pics just in case there was any questions. The manager though, Rachel, insinuated that I had been pulling at the chicks encrusted vent & told me that she would not honor a new chick or refund because the chick wasn't dead yet & Tuesday, was past their policy anyway If this is the case then C-A-L Ranch should either offer more affordable exotics or extend their refund policy on them. So I bought the last two Lavender Orpingtons that the Tooele store had on 09/10 even though I was so broken-hearted & disgusted! The sick chick passed away the next day, 09/11. I did reach out in an email to contact@calranch.com on 09/10/2024 to issue a complaint along with photos of the ailing chick & my receipt, but have not received a response back as of today, 09/15/2024. Fast-forward to Sat. 09/14/2024- one of the 2 Lavender Orpingtons which I bought on Tues. 09/10 died sometime in the early morning of no apparent cause. All the other chicks are still alive, but hopefully I do not lose anymore. I have been raising chickens for over 10 years & had always bought chicks from C-A-L Ranch. I bought Wyandottes, Rhoade Island Reds, Americana Arcunas, Buff Orpingtons & Black Marans to name a few. These were always reasonably price at $3-$4. None of these chicks ever died on me. Now, after buying a more expensive exotic breed at about $12, I have lost two within less than a week & have no recourse other than this review to warn anyone else who is thinking of buying Lavender Orpingtons from the Tooele C-A-L...

I walked in there today used the restroom and walked back out to go look at the sporting's goods. I was interested in buying some hunting equipment. looking at the backpacks I had an employee come up and ask if I was finding everything ok. I asked him what the price was because I couldn't find a price tag. he looked also but didn't see one also. he radioed up to the counter and asked for a price check, he read the numbers off but nothing came back. not a big deal stuff happens I get it. I continue to walk around and look at different things. walked up to the gun counter to look at different prices on ammo. as I was standing there two Tooele city officers walked up to me and my girlfriend and said they needed to talk to us and to go to the back of the store. they had us empty our pockets, I did, I have nothing to hide. we did and they found nothing. the store manager said that we were going into the bathroom and taking tags off of things. I wasn't I was in there to get price and gun information. I haven't stolen anything from them ever. just last night I bought a new winter work coat and just a few months before I bought new work boots. as of today my girlfriend and I are no longer allowed in the store for absolutely nothing. My mother was looking for very specific camp chairs as a gift and thought she had located them at the Tooele store. Once we got there she was disappointed to learn that the chairs were out of stock. They had many other chairs but not the specific one that my mother had wanted.

Ashley (the Assistant Manager)went above and beyond to try and help us locate them at another location. A couple of hours after we had returned home my mother received a personal text and Ashley had located very similar chairs in a neighboring state and offered to have them shipped to the Tooele store for us.

It has been a long time since we have received such kind and accommodating customer service and we would highly recommend the C-A-L Ranch store to all. It took a lot for my mother to dare to even go shopping with the fear and threat of Covid so Ashley’s willingness to help her and eliminate shopping around was profoundly appreciated.
