This is only a comment on the skating rink. Why are there no ADULTS ONLY skate nights? The music selection is not rhythmic enough for serious soul skating. If you really want to make people move on the skating rink, play BLACK music from today and have a better DJ or play pre-recorded mixed dance music that really makes you move on the rink. If you don't believe me watch ANY videos from MALIK ThOMAS channel or watch the JIVE BISQUIT channel on youtube to really learn about Black skate culture that is dearly missing up here in the North. The is no creativity in the music selection. Soul skating is a serious art and dance format that is very much underappreciated. And that huge video ad in the rear could be used to televise skating videos from previous events.
The flashing lights are a distraction for older adults who have more than enough hours on the disco dance floors, especially when dealing with speeding skaters. This place could use some soul (black people skating music) that would keep people on the rink floor. There is too much good soulful rhythmic music in the public domain and white people do not know how to dance much less skate rhythmically. Yeah I said it. There are some white chocolate skaters out there but this place could start the movement for more rhythmic skating if it used all of its potential. Look at the Tampa Soul Roll 2020 on youtube to see serious dance skate culture and moving. Or look at SkateLyfe channel on youtube. This place needs to get it together for skaters especially for those of us who KNOW real black people skate culture.
The restaurants serve cheap uneatable food that is unfit for human consumption especially in this day of healthier eating standards. This is why childhood diabetes is escalating in this country. I would never consume any food at this place. - all junk food choices. They don't even give you a healthy alternative.
This place is ancient - the management needs to travel to Atlanta or Chicago or Cleveland to see how Black people run their rinks and stay filled with patrons. It feels like the owners don't care or are out of synch with skate culture. Just type in SKATE OUT OF QUARANTINE on youtube to see come creativity. There should even be Halloween costume parties like at Atlanta black owned skating rinks. This place has nothing new, no creativity, no SOUL, like on SOUL TRAIN. Get it?
During the summer, I am better off taking two huge speakers to the rink in Monroe and skating to my own music rather than come here because people do not get it running this place. Just check out those videos to see what I am...
Read moreWe just hosted a birthday party there this weekend. The kids absolutely loved the inflatapark and arcade but the whole party was very poorly run. When we arrived our party area was disgusting, with the tables and benches covered in old cake, icing, and crumbs galore (we were the first party of the day so this was left from the night before). I pointed it out to our party host and he cleaned some of it, but my husband and I had to do the rest. Some of the tables were still filthy as our guests arrived. When our party host called all of the kids out of the inflatapark for the food portion, the kids waited 20 minutes for the pizza to be brought out. They first brought out only 2 pizzas for 20 kids (so 4 kids without pizza), even though I paid for 20 children and 5 extra pizzas. Eventually 2 more pizzas came out, and then after more time 3 more pizzas came out. Pitchers of water and drinks also took a long time. Then he took the kids icecream order but couldn't remember which kids gave it to him or not. We then took it upon ourselves while we were waiting to sing happy birthday with our own cake we brought. He then took the cake to be cut which took another 20 minutes for about 12 slices of the cake to come out, with about 10 forks. After more time more cake came out and then had to wait again for cake for the parents. By this time the kids were going crazy as they were sitting at these tables for over an hour. He forgot about the ice cream and I told him to forget it because the kids wanted to go to the arcade. We rushed downstairs because the kids were antsy, leaving our cake that the adults didn't get to eat and the extra pizza. For almost $1000 party, I expected it to be better executed. Our party host was nice but clearly overwhelmed and inexperienced. He should've had help. I expressed my concerns when checking out but no offer to speak to management was made. They took 2 pizzas off our bill (which we didn't even get to eat because they took so long anyway so they were untouched), but we left feeling frustrated. My son stated that he had fun when they were playing but there was way too much waiting. We didn't even get down to the arcade till 30 minutes after we were supposed to, and that was with skipping cake for the adults and ice cream. We will return with our children to play but caution others when hosting a party there. We've had birthday parties at several local children's places (Bounce, Billy Beez, etc), and have never experienced such poor planning...
