Beware! I was originally told $125 to hem a cheap bridesmaids dress- to be fair, it was double-layered, but most bridesmaids dresses are. I recently moved from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where everything is more expensive. I’ve been in many weddings, and never paid over $80. I needed the dress quickly, so I negotiated to $100 (which is still ridiculous, for a 2 inch hem). When I left, the man John said, “it’s a little wrinkled. I will press it for you, ok?” I said ok, thank you. I came to pick it up today, and my ticket had an extra $25 charge for steaming. I told him that I’ve never been charged extra for steaming and he said “it took a lot of time in the heat.” So get air conditioning! You certainly charge people enough to afford it. I asked my friend, who lives in the Upper East Side, what she paid to get the same dress hemmed. She told me $60. I feel like I got scammed. Will be going somewhere...
