Further to my previous review, today I received a phone call from a lovely gentleman, Joey, from Sangri 71. He wanted to take the time to understand what transpired on the night I placed my order, which led to my initial negative review. He explained to me how it was likely a miscommunication occurred by the Hostess, during a very busy time at the restaurant that night. She simply may have put in the appetizer portion, instead of the entree portion. Since I had not specified, (and honestly didn't realize there was an appetizer and entree portion), and she did not ask, clearly a miscommunication on both sides. That is the gist of this. He graciously extended an apology, and a gift toward my next order. The food IS great, I do love it there, and the response by this restaurant only solidifies a professional and courteous operation. Thank you, Joey! I'll be back soon.

How very disappointing! I've been to Sangri 71, and I have also ordered takeout from Sangri 71 many times. This past Saturday, I had family visiting, and decided to order from one of my favorite (maybe former favorite) places in Island Park. When I called, I was put on hold several times, while waiting for the person I was speaking with to confirm whether delivery was available that night. (after being put on hold for the 3rd time, we decided we would just go pick it up). Our order placed included 2 orders of Shrimp in garlic sauce under the Seafood section of the dinner menu. I order this ALL THE TIME, and IT ALWAYS came in a decent portion with a side of saffron rice, bread and side salad, when ordered for takeout. On this night, we received two orders of shrimp in garlic sauce in a smaller portion , no rice. To be clear, the total order we placed also included a paella entree, 2 orders from the tapas menu. It was basically a $97. charge, and there was 1 little roll, and in a styrofoam box a couple of pieces of lettuce with a sliced red onion. No idea what/who this was supposed to be for based on what we ordered. I called the restaurant to ask where the rice was, and what this little portion was supposed to be? The girl I spoke with tried to convince me that shrimp with garlic sauce NEVER comes with rice, and we had a conversation when I placed my order about side orders. NEVER HAPPENED. I reminded her the only question asked was whether we wanted lobster in the paella order, and said no. I was extremely upset that the order we received was pitiful for the cost, not to mention the same standard I have come to rely upon. More importantly, being adamantly told I was wrong, and NEVER GOT RICE WITH THAT ORDER. Sounds ridiculous I know, but costs continue to rise, and quantity/Customer Service continues to decline. Perhaps there has been a change in the menu offering, perhaps the person I spoke with was new, but don't tell a returning customer they are basically wrong about what they have previously received, I now have to rethink Sangri 71 as a "go to" and/or a...

Happy Mother's Day which was supposed to be a great evening ended up not such a great evening. My wife ordered the Paella for 4 people and when it came to table it was under cooked and moist when it should be cooked crunchy the rice etc. When she questioned the waiter he didn't have a reason why and offered to take it back and have it cooked more. Also ordered was 1/2 lobster and that came to table raw almost and under cooked. Waiter offered to exchange and bring another. After speaking to him the manager came to table to speak with us and said that the paella is cooked that way and the waiter requests how would would we like it. But I told him at no moment was that even told to us. He did not say nothing but say that the lobster would be exchanged and I told him we were not looking for anything just looking for good service and cooked food to its standards. At that moment my wife was very upset and just wanted to leave. I understand it was packed the place and busy but that is no excuse for poor service and uncooked food as if they were serving food to people to eat and get out. That is not the way to do business. I was reading past reviews and seeing there are plenty that have the same issue and looks like this problem is an on going issue and has not been corrected to make things better. The place is nice and all but unfortunately that does not make up for the upset night that was given to my wife tonight. I paid a good amount of money tonight there and what I got was not even half as what I thought was expected. I thought the service was ok but the food at 1 Star was even too much. Just an unexpected night so sad. (I have photos but...

Let me start by saying I love this place and I will give it another try and hope I’m treated better .

So last week a met some friends for happy hour . I suggested this place because they have an awesome happy hour and have always had good service in the past . My friends had never been there before . They arrived before me and sat at the bar and ordered drinks and appetizers . When my sister and I arrived, I suggested moving to a bar table so we could get seats together . I ordered a drink from the bar to bring over to the table and offered my credit card. The waitress said they can get card later at the table.

When the bartender/waiter came over to the table, I asked him to put my sister’s and my drinks and appetizers on my credit card . He was extremely Nasty ! And believe me I’m not exaggerating this ! He didn’t want to take our order and made me feel uncomfortable . He didn’t get our order right and completely omitted one of the appetites we ordered .

I’m not sure why we upset him so much or if he was just having a bad day and taking it out on us. I did try talking to him politely, but nothing changed his attitude. He never came back to say, would you like another drink or something else even though he did come to the table next to us more than once . At this point, I didn’t want to stay there any longer so we paid and left to go spend our money someplace else who’d appreciated our business !

I am a VERY good tipper. I worked in the service industry for many years and would have tipped way over the 20% Standard .

I have been to this restaurant many times and always recommend it to friends. I truly hope this was a one time bad...

My aunt and I decided to have dinner here at Sangria 71. We walked in around 530 and it was not crowded. The hostess was friendly. She let us choose a table that we wanted to dine at. Not many Spanish restaurants do that. The atmosphere was nice. They have live music on Wednesday night. They offer a full bar with televisions. When we sat down they bought us menus and fresh bread with an oil dressing for dipping. I decided to order an empanada. The empanadas you only get one for the price of four dollars so I ordered three different ones to try for an entree because I knew that one wasn’t enough to fill me up for dinner. For the health conscious people out there those empanadas are baked and are NOT FRIED! The three options that I ordered were Chicken Empanadas, Chorizo Empanadas and Spinach/Cheese Empanadas. The Chicken Empanadas are tasty but they could have used some more filling in them. The Chorizo Empanadas, I wish the portion size was bigger. This one was my favorite out of the three of them that I ordered. The Spinach and Cheese Empanadas, they were good but I thought that they needed more cheese. My aunt ordered the stuffed lobster. It came with a side salad and steamed broccoli. My aunt thought that it was excellent. The stuffing in the lobster was amazing she said. She thought that this restaurant offered reasonable prices and that our server named Abdel was nice and really accommodating. I think we will be back.

From the start, we have to thank Andrea for such a wonderful evening. She was the server who attended us last night as we visited to celebrate New Year’s Eve. She was so sweet and charming as we playfully guessed where she was from and she guessed where we’re from. Additionally, she provided some great recommendations as it was our first time there. As for the food, we couldn’t have been more pleased; I had the Paella Marinera (with whole lobster) and delightfully went to town on the huge skillet of perfectly cooked rice, clams, mussels, calamari, and shrimp. My mother had the Camarones Salsa with Rice, and having tried it, haven’t had a sauce quite like, it had so much flavor and I’m confident I wouldn’t be able to replicate it at home ☹️. My dad had a seafood pot that was served in a whole caldero with a mix of seafood that he enjoyed immensely. My brother had a veal dish that he pretty much inhaled before mixing the rice served alongside it in the sauce of the dish, and enjoying that as well. Of course we had dessert, and all landed on the delicious crème brûlée. My brother and I ended the night with Spanish coffees (espresso, brandy, & Kahlua,) and walked out planning our next visit with friends.

Sangria 71 in island park has become one of our go-to spots, and every visit only gets better. From the moment you walk in, the warm, vibrant atmosphere sets the tone for a great dining experience. I’ve been here several times, and the food is always top-notch—authentic Spanish flavors, perfectly cooked dishes, and of course, their signature sangria is a must! Tonight was extra special as we celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday with the family, and the evening did not disappoint. A special shoutout to our waitress Andrea, who went above and beyond—attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the night. Her service truly elevated the whole experience. Whether you’re going for a casual dinner or a celebration like we did, I highly recommend Sangria 71. It’s consistently excellent, and the staff makes you feel right at home. Looking forward to our next visit already!
