Weâve heard such great feedback from previous years, which is why weâve decided to sign up our 9 years old and 6 years old boys to Hofstra summer camp this year. I have been debating if to write this review, but honestly so disappointed from the way it was conducted :(
From the lack of communication prior to camp start date all the way till the last week of camp, it felt extremely unorganized. Weâve signed up our boys for the full 7 weeks sessions, 3 days before camp starts, weâve heard from a friend (not the camp personal) that they had to cancel 2 weeks of the (fun & exciting) adventure sessions, which were part of the reason of why weâve signed up to begin with! We had no choice but to swap it with Tennis instead. Overall, for the overpriced tuition there had been spars engaging/fun activities, the teenage counselors had barely any experience and did not know how to deal/handle the young kids, they were constantly yelling at the bored kids⌠showing them movies, so they donât need to deal with them! Kids were allowed to be on their phones instead of doing sport activities... Moreover, Hofstra supposed to have nice facilities, but the kids had to all share & change in a dirty trailer/RV, as they were not allowed to use the lockers to change for swim, our son preferred not to even bother/go in the pool since the line was too long to change his clothes :( The bus drivers were changing every other day!! Not knowing where to go, ending up having the kids on the bus for almost two hours, when it should take w/ traffic 15-20 min. max door to door, can you imagine every day having your kids for an hour & a half on the bus each way with zero counselors and only a bus driver?? Thatâs a major safety issue!
The last session was supposed to be the most exciting & fun âTravel Campâ, there was no communication about the activities planned until I called to complain that weâve received zero information about it⌠instead of taking them to Splish Splash like previous years, for 2 days out of the 5 - they were watching a movie & going to for bowling⌠Weâve paid so much money for what?! such a waste! Lastly, we were told there would be lots of sports activities for our six years old son age group, unfortunately this was not the case and they had dedicated much more time for crafts instead, which he ended up being bored with :( One Friday he acted out, and we were told at noon that he is banned from all afternoon activities due to his bad behavior. I agree with them speaking to him about his inappropriate behavior and placing him in time-out, in hope they will give him another chance⌠However, weâve found out that our six years old son was put in 4 ½ hours of time-out, which is outrageous, unacceptable, and borderline child abuse!!
Due to everything noted above, and until there are major improvements within the overall staff, programs, and activities, we will not be having our sons attend Hofstra...
Read moreHofstra University's summer camp was an absolute game-changer for our child, and I can't help but gush about the Games Builders Academy! We couldn't be happier with the entire experience.
Our journey with Hofstra University's summer camp started with a seamless enrollment process. The staff's support and flexibility in making it happen put us at ease right from the beginning. We knew we were making the right choice for our child's summer adventure.
The Games Builders Academy was, hands down, the highlight of our child's summer. As a parent, it was refreshing to see my child so enthusiastic about learning game development. The instructors were not only highly skilled but also deeply passionate about igniting creativity in their students. Our child honed game design and coding skills, creating games we're genuinely impressed with.
Beyond the Games Builders Academy, the camp offered a diverse range of activities that allowed our child to explore various interests. From sports to arts to academics, it was a comprehensive summer experience that left our child excited every day.
The camp counselors were friendly and attentive, and they provided a sense of security. Knowing that our child was in good hands allowed us to relax and enjoy our summer as well. The well-structured schedule made for smooth transitions between activities, and we appreciated the organization throughout the camp.
The open communication channels with the camp director and staff ensured that we were always informed about our child's progress and any updates. It truly felt like a partnership with the camp.
Thanks to the Games Builders Academy and Hofstra University's summer camp, our child had a summer filled with learning, friendships, and countless memories. I wholeheartedly recommend this camp to any parent, especially if your child has a passion for game development. It's a top-notch experience that we'll...

I wish I could give this place half a star! I was a camper here this past summer and may I just say this was one of experiences of my entire life. On the first day my mom told me I was going to have fun but she quickly realized that this is a terrible establishment. The camp is about 8 hrs and for a majority of the time u wait. Waiting is all I could remember from my camp!!! I believe I waited 1 hr just in the morning when they put u in the gym. So you might want to bring your phone, switch, or laptop... these are all thing people did. But donât forget a charger. They also blast music at an earaping level! Also the food there is terrible. i would rather eat food from the 99 cent store!!! BTW try the lemonade itâs the only decent thing there! The hot dogs are disgusting..on my first week they had the fat hot dogs no one likes. Itâs was also cold. Then they had the normal hot dogs with these nasty chips. DO NOT get them.In addition to this issue all the staff does is yell at u! Even when u didnât do anything. When u get on the line to be served lunch they yell right in ur ear and the top of their lungs to make two serperate lines. There is also this tall dude u make this annoying noise whichâs sounds like a Monkey and a bird hit in a fight! There is also a mean âladyâ who says u canât use the vending machines when the counselors said ok to it. When u get in the pool thereâs the swim staff director who just yells in ur first day but nothing else rlly. The part which wasnât that bad was my counselor Noah in group B93. He was mad chill. But other counselors are mean! And there kids 14-27! So if your reading this plz do not send ur son/daughter to this camp. I am aware of how much u paid ($2,345) save your money and your time. Do make ur kids hate u for sending them to this camp.Btw this is all true not made up! Donât say I...
