Took a Saeco coffee machine here for repair and they couldn't fix it. They worked on it twice with no success and told me that I was the problem because I was using dark roast beans. Of course I had been using dark roast beans since the day I bought the machine about 18 months ago, so that was an unacceptable answer. I actually think their repair technician is pretty good, and I believe they couldn't diagnose the problem because Saeco doesn't provide good troubleshooting instructions and tools to their repair centers.
But, I was still unhappy with Turnpike because I think their "Repair Guarantee" is bogus. In my case, they didn't guarantee that they fixed the machine. They just guaranteed that they did indeed spend the labor that they charged me for on the first attempt - and that they wouldn't charge for additional labor.
When they decided that the processor board was the next most likely culprit (which turned out to be wrong) they wanted to sell me the part at double the price of the same part on the web. Seemed to me that they should sell me the part at the same price as I could buy it myself - especially since the first repair I paid for didn't solve the problem.
So I bought the processor board on the web at half the price they wanted, found the service manual on the web, and replaced it myself. When that didn't fix the problem, I went to the next most likely culprit - the grinder motor - bought it on the web and replaced it myself. And now finally my coffee machine is working again.
Bottom line: Their "Repair Guarantee" doesn't mean that they guarantee that they fixed your appliance, so be prepared to spend more if their first repair attempt isn't successful.
And, I'd stay away from Saeco coffee machines that have the "Saeco Adapting System" feature for automatically adjusting the coffee dose. That feature is very sensitive to changes in the current draw from the grinder motor. My grinder motor started using more current and caused my machine to frequently abort the brew cycle. So even though the motor sounded fine and was stll grinding coffee just fine, I had to replace it to get the current usage back within the specs that the processor...
Read moreI found Turnpike to be quite unhelpful. My battery on a Braun 7540 is in need of replacement. I went on line and saw several battery sellers offering replacement batteries for $12 US. Turnpike told me that they were unable to repair the device because in the past when they attempted battery replacements often there were other things wrong with the devices. I told them that when plugged in the device works fine but does not hold a charge. They told me that no one fixes the batteries they buy new ones. On the shelf they had an older 7 series which they were selling for $329 dollars. I told them I had been online and saw them for as little as $169 and while I expected them to be more given they are a store front that a $160 mark up was over the top. In addition the top of the line 9 series lists at around that number. He further added that if he were to fix my shaver it would be $70, but then backed away and said he wouldn't do the work anyway. I assumed that the $70 repair bill for $12 in batteries and 20 minutes on their part was intended to discourage me from having it fixed and move me toward the new one. In short they are ripping people off by selling old model equipment for astronomical cost while misleading people. I wouldn't shop here ever again. As I walked to he door he then told me about a facility that is authorized to do the repair in a store 20 miles away. Turns out the store 20 miles away has the same name - Turnpike Appliance.... Eyeroll. A little effort n their part would have gotten them a $50 profit and a little honest pricing would have gotten them a sale... I wonder how people like this stay in business.... I feel bad for the poor fools who get suckered in to doing business with them. ...
