Extremely Disappointed – A Long List of Installation Failures and Headaches
In 2016, we purchased an entire kitchen’s worth of appliances from Berger: GE Profile dishwasher, slide-in range and oven, microwave, French-door refrigerator with water and ice, and an Electrolux washer-dryer set with pedestal storage.
While we chose Berger based on its longstanding reputation, what we received was an experience riddled with careless installation, missing components, costly repairs, and ongoing inconvenience.
Dishwasher Issues: • The installation was rushed and incomplete. The technicians failed to install the leak tray and sensor that came with the GE dishwasher—crucial parts that prevent water damage. They either threw it out with the box or ignored it completely. • The dishwasher wasn’t grounded, a basic electrical safety step. As a result, the motherboard burned out a few years later, costing us over $600 in parts and labor, plus another $150 to bring in an electrician to ground it. • A leak from a poorly connected water line caused damage to the downstairs neighbor’s ceiling, which we had to cover out-of-pocket. • We’re now having to pay for and install the leak tray ourselves—again, a part that should have come with the dishwasher and been properly installed by Berger’s team.
Range/Oven: • The slide-in range was not leveled correctly. It sits unevenly, causing food to cook and burn unevenly on one side. Something so basic should never have been overlooked.
Refrigerator: • The French-door fridge doors don’t align or close properly, leading to spoiled food. Yet another technician has to be called to address it.
Washer/Dryer: • The units were installed unevenly, causing vibrations, loud shaking, and items falling. One pedestal drawer doesn’t close at all—turns out the magnet was never installed. • Plumbing hookups weren’t connected properly and required another plumber to fix.
Overall, it’s not just about the cost of fixing these problems—it’s the stress, wasted time, and lack of accountability that makes this experience unacceptable. We trusted Berger to deliver professionalism and care. Instead, we’ve spent years dealing with the aftermath of sloppy work.
I genuinely hope this helps future customers make a more informed decision. Appliances are supposed to make life easier—not create years of stress and...
Read moreI am in the middle of a terrible experience with this store. I went in to buy a washer/dryer 3 weeks ago and chose a set on showroom floor that was not in stock. Salesman showed me photos of a set which was “the same just larger capacity,” which I then purchased. Upon delivery I found out it was 2” higher and $60 more for each machine- two important facts the salesman neglected to mention. I complained and they agreed to swap machines to original ones I chose once they came in to their warehouse. Then I was told only washer available, dryer unspecified wait time. A week later, the washer was delivered WITH the dryer (which apparently was another customer’s order). Two days later, I went to pull a sheet out of the washer and the center agitator pole piece came up with it. In 50 years of owning appliances, I’ve never seen anything like that. You could hear a loose screw shaking around somehow in the cylinder. I called store to complain and they offered to call GE service -which was unacceptable to me on a brand-new machine. Now they are saying they are willing to swap it once another machine comes into their warehouse in a few weeks, but they will not take back the dryer. This is an unreasonable, unacceptable solution, since I need a W/D set. Lacking their cooperation, I am now disputing the charge with my credit card company. First they deliver a set whose specs I was unaware of. Second they deliver a machine meant for another customer. Third, that machine is defective. Three strikes, you’re out.
UPDATE: Owner has just agreed to take back machines and give full credit. While I commend him on his courtesy, I can’t honestly recommend this store now, since the overall experience...
Read moreI would give 10 stars if I could. For the purchase of appliances for our new home, we worked with Rob. The showroom has a great selection and we had read Consumer's Reports beforehand. But Rob gave practical advice about the various brands and how different options would meet our needs. We initially selected kitchen and laundry room appliances based on one design, but Rob worked with us to make changes as the design of the rooms was refined. We needed a stackable washer and dryer that had the smallest clearance, and he suggested highly rated but reasonably priced Electrolux units for us. They saved a crucial 3-4 inches. He guided me towards a Wolf range versus cooktops and ovens. That saved us a bit of money. He caught the need to change the Subzero refrigerator from French doors to left opening when the size of our island changed. I have probably called 6-8 times with questions or schedule changes; Rob has been gracious and helpful (and certainly patient). The installers he recommended have been professional, fairly priced and helpful too. Our home renovations have been extensive. We have been pleased with the work of our contractor and the subs he brought to our home. But the shining star in this process has been Rob and Bergers. We love him. We love this appliance store. Do not bother with big box stores and their service. This store has everything you...
