Berger Hardware — Attraction in Town of Mount Pleasant

I cannot recommend Berger Hardware highly enough. It reminds me of the way businesses like this used to be. What really stood out here was a gentleman whose name if I recall correctly was Joe. He helped us back in the nuts, bolts, and washers portion of the hardware section. I needed a shim of sorts to fix my grandma's antique wardrobe doors. Joe's dad happened to have worked installing large doors on commercial buildings so he knew exactly what I was trying to do. They didn't have anything that would work perfectly, but Joe came up with an idea of how to cut a washer into what I needed. Since I was visiting from out of state and didn't have the necessary tools, Joe actually took and cut the washers for me free of charge. It is hard to find employees that actually care about customer service these days and who will take the time to help solve a problem for a customer. I'm sure that the couple dozen screws and washers I purchased didn't make them a lot of money but I know that whenever my family and their friends who live in the area have any hardware needs this will be the place they'll go. Nov 2024, came here on Sunday for “Ladies Night.” I remember when Ladies Night meant women drink for free at the bar or get in free. But, OMG! What a blast. I could not believe all the women who were online waiting to get in. As soon as you entered the store they handed each of us a “goodie bag” with lots of useful stuff. Besides getting 20% off full price items that night, they had wine, shrimp cocktail, Pin Wheel Roll Ups with cheese and turkey, a plater of cheese and crackers, Veggies, and cookies for your sweet tooth. They raffled off a gift basket the next day and my friend won the basket. Inside the basket there were plenty of nice items. I am so happy to still have a regular hardware store still in business after all of these Mass chains opened up. The service and Burger Hardware puts Home Depot, Lowe's and any other of these large chain stores to shame . This Mass chain stores put so many other mom and pop hardware stores out of business. But still, everyone at Berger is polite, courteous and so helpful. I can't say enough about them. You never have to look for them, They come & find you to see what they can do to help you. The place is simply terrific, Five stars is not enough **. I truly wish that these large chain stores would go out of business and more stores like Burger reopened. I would be happy to pay more money for items that I would buy at a neighborhood mom-and-pop hardware store because it supports local business and keeps our middle class...
