Loved seeing all the AR Mitchell stuff and learning about him. Stunning artist, nice display. In a side room were some pieces of art which were for sale..people donated so owner could sell..part of a fund raiser. The gal with the Texas drawl (owner?) totally ignored us (Which we LOVED) the whole time we were there until we walked into this room. Then she was on us like bees on honey. She talked non-stop about this painting or that. There was NO appreciating the art as she talked and talked and talked, leaving us UNABLE to appreciate the art.
HMMMM..totally ignore then smother. Seems like an odd strategy. I suggest saying "The art in here is for sale as a fund raising opportunity. Let me know if you need anything." A true art lover will be free to study WITHOUT disruption, and I suspect more art would be sold. I determined early on during her pushy "soft" sales spiel that I would not buy anything as she did not allow me to "feel" the art the way I would have needed to do before a purchase.
In response to Director's response....you said waaaaaaay more than why they were there and how you acquired them. You talked non stop and did not allow us to truly enjoy. YOU believe you NEED to do this, but the customer may not NEED it or WANT it. You lost a potential sale for your fund raiser by harassing us. You did not follow us around to explain any AR Mitchell paintings or other objects, just the art for sale. Some people may dig it, but you should be sensitive to the fact that...
Read moreWe came to Colorado to buy art in Denver and Colorado Springs, and were so impressed by this art museum and the art scene in Trinidad. There is so much good art and history here. We've been to many of the most famous art museums in the world, but this one was so refreshing in it's passion and authenticity. It has the kind of art people enjoy looking at and would want to hang on their walls. You can tell people who really care about art paid a large price and spent a lot of time to put this all together for the free benefit of so many. And the historical building it's in adds to the experience.
We stopped in Trinidad enroute from Denver to Dallas, having no idea of what a beautiful, enjoyable, and historic town Trinidad is. In many ways we enjoyed it more than touristy towns like Breckenridge. There's a history and authenticity and architecture and art scene here that's so wonderful. And it seemed like every person we talked to in the town...
Read moreThis is a cool place. Don't let "art museum" scare you off. The folks are friendly and the museum features really good contemporary western art as well as that of Mr. Mitchell. They display famous magazine covers by AR Mitchell alongside his actual pencil drawings where he sketched out the original idea.
Cody Kuehl was one of the featured artists the Friday we were there. Got to meet him and discuss art and music. Trinidad First Friday Art Walk is a fun evening! Dip into one of the locally owned restaurants, grab a drink, and wander main street visiting the...
