I went here today with a list of items I couldn't pronounce feeling anxious. Would I be able to find what I needed? I had the most heart warming and nerve-soothing experience. The woman working there helped me find every single thing on my list easily, she asked about what I was making and offered me suggestions and alternate methods, she had a very clear and deeply experienced wealth of information for me. She offered substitutions to make the recipe easier and more authentic, and even steered me away from buying one item because she explained it was used to boost fermentation and since it is hot where we live it isn't necessary. I had no idea. She said "what are you making? Let me see the recipe!" From now on, I will go to her before I do any indian recipe search on google. I went to India Dukaan because there are no specialty Indian grocers in Sierra Vista, and a group of friends and I planned an Indian themed dinner party. Needless to say, India Dukaan had everything we needed, and more! The owner was extremely nice and helped me so very much; she explained what things were, what ingredients I really needed, and had the absolute best brands available. The store is small, yes, but the owner has already started expanding it! They are starting to carry a good variety of frozen foods now, too - including falooda (whoo hoo!). The best place in Tucson for authentic Indian spices! While this place isn’t huge, the selection is extremely well thought out, organised, and the staff are helpful. They mainly have bagged dry spices, but they also carry things such as teas, rice, canned goods, syrups, oils, a few frozen items, Indian style yogurt, and personal items such as hair dyes and henna. It would be nice to see a few offerings of fresh items, (things like coriander, mint, some fruit and veg) but honestly that just may not be something they want to get into.
