The gaming world is much like other industries/businesses/interests. Amazon and other online retailers have challenged the model of how business is done, for large and small business alike. In this, success hinges on what businesses have to offer.
It's in this light that the local game shop has something that shines through, and SCG has embraced this well.
Great hub for comics and collectibles, they buy, sell, and trade, and are reasonably knowledgeable.
Their card game offerings as sales go are sufficient, although their singles are not a huge thing. Not a bad thing when they probably know it's hard to compete with other game stores in the area that are known to have every card in existence for some games.
What you do come to this store for is the people and community. The owners focus on family friendly fun, care genuinely about the customers, and are welcoming to all walks of life and mentalities around gaming. The people do not require loyalty to stores nor focus on negative, but instead foster good ideals around gaming, enjoy good conversation about gaming and entertainment culture, and there's a level of maturity around the fun that many other places lose in their competitiveness.
Many days i've watched a person come here to play a game for the first time, and there's always someone that helps get them started and moving forward in a fun new interest. The focus is fun, although I will say there are some people very good at winning as well, the skill levels vary from game competitors to casual to collectors... there's something for anyone.
My personal experience, I've been bringing my son to this particular store for a few years now, he's been playing Magic The Gathering since he was 10, and even though the MtG crowd is usually very nuanced and older, the store regulars have all been accepting of him and welcome him to play with them without question.
Since many games and events take a long time, you will probably also find yourself seeking food while here, and the store has a long term arrangement with the Chinese restaurant next door for a discount on select meals, and more often than not deliver the food to the game store.
They do have some rules to note, and they are good ones. They are particular about foul language and bad attitudes, and will not hesitate to ask people to leave, they take a good gaming community seriously. And it is a non smoking AND non vaping shop, for the sake of respecting all the players. No alcohol as well, an up and down of things, but it keeps things to good clean family level fun.
There's regular events for various games, they do generally post these to facebook, and an in store calendar on the wall, but it doesn't hurt to simply give them a call, their people are friendly and very willing to answer any questions on events in my experience.
Rules questions? They staff the store with experts that know, love, and live gaming.
Closing time sometimes is flexible, depending on who is working there, what games are being played, and other various factors. Don't expect a late night and respect their time, but sometimes you can find a good gaming night can just keep going and going.
The cons of the place, it's not huge like some places, so pre release events for MtG for example, can get packed and crazy. Their staff are very good at handling a large crowd, and the crowd is usually a good group, but it can be a little tight.
The chairs. They have a lot of tables, tons of boards and terrain to bring out for the tables, but the chairs can be a little worn. If you are bigger person, might not help to invest in a walkstool or something of the like.
Bathrooms, there's one unisex bathroom, so for a large crowd it can mean a little waiting, everyone is generally polite...

Read moreExtremely rude staff and owner. Had an appointment to sell a very large and expensive set of comic books. I arrived 5 minutes early, to find the owner had left without bothering to notify my about the cancellation of our meeting. Upon entering the store, I asked the employee to call the owner, which he did. The owner refused to come back so I tried doing business with the employee. My comics were manhandled and nearly damaged. After all this, I was offered less than a dollar for nearly $300 in comics. I left disgusted. I came back 6 months later to see if the place had changed and was shocked when I found the employees talking to customers about how they ripped off an elderly woman for pokemon cards worth THOUSANDS of dollars. The employees were gloating. It was disgusting. Shop online and AVOID this store at all costs. This review is for the Indiana,...
