I grew up in a much different church. I was raised Lutheran, and in my teenage years, the pastor we had was passionate about his beliefs, and that passion was transferred to us. I always got something out of his sermons, as well as his teachings in our confirmation classes. Then, he was placed elsewhere, and a new pastor came along. Mundane is all I can say. I quit enjoying because i quit learning. I tried other Lutheran churches, and I just never felt at home in them, or wasn't receiving God's message like I felt I should. I eventually quit attending on a regular basis.
Then I met my wife who has been a member of the Vineyard for years. I went with her after some coaxing, but walked in thinking "This is WAY to progressive for me. I am not going to like this at all" I couldn't have been more wrong about my feelings there. The congregation will meet you in the common area, introduce themselves, ask how you are, AND wait for your response.
Then came the sermon. For the first time in decades, I got those chills during a service. Chills that I remember getting from Pastor Kloha's teaching as a teen, when something he said just hit home with me, and I understood. Chills that I have always attested to the Holy Spirit rushing through me. I get that feeling every time I am there, whether it is during the sermon, or even in a song.
The music here is nothing short of fantastic. Often very moving, and I very much enjoy hearing Kyle sing in particular. The music can move you!
I don't have the sad story of drug or alcohol addiction, nor have I spent time in the correctional system, nor have I lost a loved one that would be a catalyst for my return to God's teachings. I merely went with my wife just to appease her if I am being honest, and now the Vineyard is where I consdier my home church. If you have never been, and are reading this and considering attending, I strongly encourage you to do so. Give it a try, even if it's without an open mind, just as I did for the first time. I strongly believe your opinion will change, and I feel confident that you will receive the word of God at...
Read moreI was a part of this church and a couple of its multi-sites for 12 years. God taught me a lot about Himself, who I am in Him, and my purpose in His Kingdom through the many messages, teachings, trainings, and the School of Kingdom Ministry. I am grateful for all that they steward here and always take what I learned everywhere God sends me next. I am currently a part of another church, leading worship and small groups, but I will never forget the things and the people that were a part of my journey and have made me who I am today. Thank you Vineyard Church of Central Illinois for being the watering hole that so many...
Read moreThis is my home church! I was first turned off by this church because of how big it is. I was a small fish in a big ocean. I am not an out going social person, so attending a church with a lot of people was intimidating. The vineyard offers Free learning courses Alpha, Discover, Holy Spirit Day and other meetings that really helps you contact to others. The more people you know the smaller the church becomes. The church leaders encourage people to get connected. It will benefit you socially and spiritual. We are not meant to walk...
