PURE Salon Aveda — Attraction in Urbandale

I recently moved to Iowa and did weeks of online research to find a new stylist. Bc PURE had a fairly detailed questionnaire and provided strong bios of the stylists, I decided to move forward. After completing, 3 stylists were recommended. I chose Maddison, as her bio stated she enjoys the pixie.

As a new client, I was in and out in less than 45 mins - the majority of which was talking, hair washing and blow drying. After the cut, I was given a tap on the shoulders “isn’t this cute, I love it!” I didn’t have an opportunity to have a close look at it and I didn’t get to see the back at all. $78.73 later, Im stuck with possibly the worst cut and style I’ve ever received. The shape is literally opposite of what I showed in pictures and asked for, and the style is dated and homely. I wanted a messy pixie and ended with a heavily layered, extremely uneven bob with ridges and chunks missing. On top of it, this was not a spa or salon experience. Now I’m stuck with a horrible cut for 8-12 months, as my hair grows extremely slowly (which I communicated.) This was a subpar salon experience and horrible haircut. I moved to Iowa recently and was super nervous to find someone new to do my hair. I made an appointment with Katy and hoped for the best. We did a quick consult at the beginning of my appointment and I expressed my wishes, concerns, and lifestyle. Katy took all of this information into account when discussing my options and making recommendations. It felt really collaborative which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was also really comforting to hear my new stylist demonstrate her knowledge and attention to detail. We ended up doing something slightly different than what I booked the appointment for and Katy was also upfront about the price difference. I always appreciate that!

Katy did a fantastic job and I left feeling like my hair had life again!! I will be back to see Katy. She's a gem. Another aspect I enjoyed about my appointment was Katy's efficiency, I think my hair was completely done and styled in under two hours.

I was extremely nervous going to a new salon and going to a new stylist that was a level 1. We got booked for the next day after we called though before the holiday which was amazing. I have very long hair and can be very particular. My son's hair is very hard to cut and we have had several people in the past cut his and have had it turn out ALL kinds of wrong. GABBY WAS AMAZING!!!!! She was very diligent about getting all of my highlights top notch clear to the root! My haircut is perfect! My son's turned out great also! Best part, my son can be extremely quiet and Gabby and him talked the entire time. He felt very comfortable with her. That was priceless to me! They provide shoulder massages at the beginning, neck warmers while you are processing, and had a soft towel for the rinsing bowl! I hate when you lean back and get a freezing cold neck and it is so hard! All the staff was smiling and great atmosphere! Great experience!
