Very Disappointing Experience
My husband and I recently designed my diamond engagement ring with a jeweler in Maryland. We are both in the military, me stationed in Virginia Beach and him in San Diego. With that, I needed to resize my ring a half size and needed to find a jeweler in Virginia Beach instead of the original jeweler who made the ring. I researched possible places to resize my ring and stumbled upon Long Jewelers. I felt reassured as they have over a thousand reviews and 5 stars on google/yelp. I was very mistaken.
I brought my ring in to be resized a half size from a 6 to 5.5. I picked it up after 3 days and immediately saw in the parking lot what looked like a dent in the ring. I immediately went back in, showed them the issue, and they said it would take 5 minutes to fix, no problem. They gave the ring back to me and at first glance no issues.
After further inspection that day, the originally issue was not fixed. In fact, it was very clear that the ring was no longer symmetrical and the bottom was quite thin compared to when I originally brought it in. I don’t understand why it had to be thinned out so much when I only went down a half size. The same day I picked it up, I called back. They said they would fix the issue on Monday when I brought it back in (closed on Sundays).
On Monday, I brought my ring back in. A very nice lady (I’m sorry I forget her name!) helped me and clearly saw that the ring was uneven and very thin at the bottom. On the repair ticket she wrote for them to correct the bottom of the ring and also add the gold they had originally taken off. She also spoke with the manager and told him about the repair so he knew about the situation. I felt better!
On Friday, I go in to pick up my ring. The gentlemen that is helping me I believe to be the manager. He is very kind and promptly returns my ring. Once again at first glance, it does look better than when I brought it in on Monday. After further inspection, the ring is still uneven at the bottom, it is clear no gold was added to the ring, and it looks like the birth stones inside the ring have been completely damaged or changed.
To say I am disappointed is an understatement. My ring holds significant sentimental value. I thought it would be okay, taking it to a different jeweler who did not originally create the ring, as I did research and thought a ring sizing will be no issue! I was very wrong. I appreciate them trying to fix the issue, but they should not have damaged my ring to begin with, a mistake that now will cost me significant money to repair or even recast my ring. I will say that the customer service was a 5/5, everyone was very friendly and eager to help. As I said before, I shouldn’t have had an issue to begin with or had to bring it in 3 separate times for an issue the jeweler had created.
I have attached images of my ring (perfection) before resizing, after my initial visit, and my last visit to the store (additional photo for birth stones). I understand I could go back to them to demand my money back ($90) or force them to fix it, but at this point I do not want them any where...
Read moreLong Jeweler's is my top recommendation for any fine jewelry needs in Hampton Roads. Be it care and maintenance of your most important pieces, resizing, restoring family heirlooms, or making your engagement one of the most incredible experiences of your life: Long's has you covered. I have been going with my mom since I was knee-high, and I finally had the privilege of returning with my (now) fiancé as a customer in my twenties. I am not a typical Bride, and my engagement ring needed to match my personality and aesthetics, especially considering how much they deviate from current trends. We went to Long's with the idea that I would instead be ordering offline from a designer overseas, because I doubted they would have anything in store that suited my particular tastes (yellow gold, Alexandrite, nature inspired, filigree etc.), and they didn't! They had one step better: a financially sensible customization process. We worked with Gracie, who was patient, thoughtful, dedicated, and encouraging of our ideas. The customization process was painless, and working with the designer was an easy process with Gracie acting as our go-between. I know every bride says this, but I have the most beautiful engagement ring I have ever seen, and it is so unique to me. The compliments have not stopped! We will be back for our wedding bands in 2022, and I will continue to recommend Long's (& Gracie specifically) to every bride or person I know who needs their fine jewelry...

David Long is always repairing my broken chains and replacing lost gemstones and diamond in rings and necklaces at a reasonable cost… but my favorite thing about Long Jewelrs is how talented David is with making beautiful jewelry. I brought him an antique watch from my late father that I wanted to wear but never would and he turned it into a stunning bracelet using loose diamonds and gemstones from other old pieces of jewelry. David made me the most beautiful necklace with tanzanite gifted to me from my Aunt, listening to design ideas I had and using his wealth of knowledge and years of experience to make me an absolutely stunning piece of jewelry.
I highly recommend Long Jewelers to all my family & friends, everyone is just as happy as I am about the quality, care, and the many specials Long Jewelrs offers making it affordable for everyone to purchase beautiful jewelry! Absolutely go check them out, you won’t be disappointed!
(I will be sure to add pics of the recent jewelry David is working on once I pick the...
