Like several other historic houses and sites in Virginia Beach, this one was unfortunately closed for renovations during our visit. While we couldn’t tour the house, we still enjoyed walking around the beautiful, well-maintained grounds and gardens. The gardens were a highlight, with plenty of shaded benches that provided a perfect spot to sit and soak in the peaceful surroundings. We had the place to ourselves, which made the visit even more tranquil. However, there is some traffic noise from the nearby roads, including the busy Virginia Beach Blvd. The parking was ample, but not sure how easy it would be to park here if it was open and busy. This home belonged to slaveowners. The entire time I was there, I felt gross like we shouldn't be there. They did mention the slaves, but not in any detail beyond their "duties" of cooking and cleaning. It seemed to focus more on the almost lavish lifestyle of the homeowners.
