Planet Fitness — Attraction in Virginia Beach

On 6/24/2020. I go to this planet fitness 6 days a week. My normal hours are between 8:30-10pm. Since Covid19 the gun’s closing hours are 10pm. I finished my workout at 9:55pm, walked to the counter and asked who I now know to be Christian if I was “able to sit in the chair” , he responded but saying “ma’am we close in 5 minutes” to which I replied “I’m aware, I’ve done this before, I was able to do it last night using a token”. He then said “ I’ll have to ask my manager” . He asked Joe, the shift manager if it was okay, Joe checked the time and said “yes, use give her a token “. Christan could not find them, so Joe told him to just “set me up”. I told Christan we would be running 2 minutes behind now due to the time it took to get a yes. I went to chair 9, and 3.15 minutes into my massage, at exactly 9:57pm a very abrupt entrance from a girl (who’s name at the time I did not know) named Zaria came in and stated to me “Excyse ma’am , I’m going to have to kick you out, of your here after 10 we will get in trouble”. I looked at her shocked and stated “In was given permission by the manager out front”. She then tried to tell me again “well, I’m sorry but you need to leave”. At that point I told her “I can’t move because the machine has a grip on my legs” she then proceeds to roll her eyes and head out of the room. I asked for her name, but she did not give it to me. At 1.13 minutes left of my massage and appx 10:01 I was able to get up , I went to clean the chair and headed to the front. I saw Joe, Christian & Zaria up front. I walked towards the front and confirmed by asking “Did you give me permission to sit in the massage chair” speaking to Joe. He confirmed that he indeed did give me permission. I looked towards her as if to confirm I was not lying. I said “Thank you” and turned to go out of the door when she said “Mmmhm have a good night” with a very rude attitude. I then turned back around and asked for her first name in which she turned and hid her badge from me. She told me “Nope” and proceeded to tell me “HAVE A GOOD NIGHT” as if she hadn’t just made my experience at MY home gym a terrible one. I then started to record her actions and armed for her name once again, she did not comply. Once Christan realized I was recording he made a point to lie and said “you came up here cursing at us” I made the point to say that’s an absolute lie. I asked both Joe and Christan what her name was and got no response over 4 times. Christan said “your going to get banned from here”. I said “for what, all I need is her name” Then I asked what Joe’s name was & he showed me his badge and proceeded to say “we’re closed ma’am” it was 10:02. I asked for Christan’s name & he proceeded to say “I’m not even at work anymore” he did not identify himself. I then said I’d be making a complaint again all 3 of them and walked out. I called the next morning 6/25/20 and spoke to their manager Jewel. I explained what my experience was. The one thing that stuck out to me was that she told me “know if there is a guest who’s taking a little extra time, they may have to stay later”. It was obvious they all were ready to be in their cars at 10pm. I also asked Jewel if there was any policy on the time to sit in the massage chairs for example not after 9:55 or before closing and said told me there was not. She apologized on their behalf & She said she would have the district manager call me. I am waiting for this call now. I’m extremely disappointed in the service I was given yesterday. I can only hope the new location on Va Beach Blvd will be better staffed with mature young adults who actually communicate effectively with the members who go to their gym.

UPDATE I was called by Jewel who said because her employees said I was cussing and from video her employees shouldnt have to deal with me. She stated my membership would be canceled. I HAVE VIDEO on my own phone. I will gladly send it to cooperate. I asked if there was audio or if she was just going to take their word for it and sure enough she’s going to believe her employees . Shame...

So I had 2 friends who wanted to work out with me, I called ahead and talked to a employee about my issue and he said no problem, we'll take care of you. I though that was really generous of him however I go there and I explain the conversation I had with the guy on the phone , lets call him "w" and at first the staff said ok, but then this other guy said "that's not allowed" I continue to explain what "w" said and how he left something for the other staff but this guy kept ignoring me. Like even if I'm wrong listen don't just shut me out. But anyways I was like whatever. I'll just get one of them a day pass. So I wait for my friends to get here and we walk in together.. So we go up to the desk and I'm like "she's my guest and he's getting a guest pass/day pass." I have 10$ prepared because I saw on the website a day pass/guest pass was $10, This woman who wasn't even serving me came over to us like it was her due diligence, then she looks at me as if I'm up to no good and says "no it's $20" in the rudest tone I've ever heard. I say "on the website it says $10" and I showed them the screenshot on my phone, with it clearly saying $10. And she again said "no it's $20" , again with a rude tone. Now luckily one of my friends had $20 so as he began to fill out the form she continuously gave us attitude. And she had the nerve to say "I saw you arguing with my co-worker over there and that was very disrepectful, he knows what he's talking about, I don't wanna see that ever again" now I decided to remain calm because I could of said so much more... But I said o-k. And before I could finish this woman cuts me off and says "and I know you were lying about being able to being 2 for free people because that's against policy and I don't know who told you that" and at this point she's saying all these negative things to me... And she's giving me a lecture on stuff I don't care about at all.And I really did want to go, I was about to end my member ship honestly, that was unprofessional and rude. She took it way too far. I didn't appreciate how she was treating me like a child, talking to me as if she was my mom, that was too far ( I'm thinking of reporting her but not sure yet) I don't recommend this planet fitness for anyone. Every other one I've been to was decent or above this this one was just horrible, and she kept looking at us while we were working out and I could tell she was talking to her co-workers about us... The whole thing was just unprofessional. I...

The first time I went in I was nervous as all get out. Bryan really helped me get over a lot of my anxiety, so kudos to him! That being said, most of the staff are pretty nice. They even have trainers should you want some professional help.

This particular location is open 24/7! (Holidays not withstanding.) The atmosphere is super chill and casual. The temperature of the place is pretty agreeable. And bless whoever came up with the giant fans keeping the funk levels down over the cardio area. They have water fountains complete with stations to fill your water bottles at if you need it.

The variety of equipment this place has is amazing! If there's something my little out of shape body could do they have it there. There're things I am still unaware of their purpose for. But if you ever want to know what something does there are little qr codes all over that you can use in conjunction with the app and you'll get little run downs on that piece of equipment that you scanned the code from. There are stations all over the gym for you to disinfect your equipment between uses too, which makes me a bit more comfortable considering the pandemic and all.

The locker rooms are neat and tidy (or at least the women's one was, can't speak for the men's). There are tons of lockers in various sizes. The room itself is super spacious.

My favorite part is probably the black card lounge with free use of the massage chairs and hydro massage beds (if you have a black card membership). After working out, getting a massage is just heavenly. There's even tanning beds if that's your cup of tea.

Side note, the creepy looking purple hand chairs are oddly comfortable? So if you've got to wait for someone and you don't want to do it while exercising at least there's a comfy...
