A J Gators Sports Grille & Bar — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

AJ Gators is a local sports bar, period. If you are looking for a review offering some insights on the food - then you are going to the wrong place. The Old Bay wings are great, steak bites are perfect, and hamburgers tasty. Bar food, plain and simple and easy to eat. So, I rate this place a 5 star not because of the food and the atmosphere but truly because of the staff and the service. Again, this is not a fancy European eatery with fois gras and white napkin waiters. This is a fun place to watch a game, enjoy the drinks, and appreciate the staff taking care of you. Andrew at the bar was great this past Thursday night. Attentive to our needs, quick on refills, and made me feel like I was home - except my home is in New Jersey. Any table will be fine, and the wait staff is lively and quick at keeping the place moving along. I would recommend a bar seat to enjoy the more local vibe of your fellow bar crowd. I came in and hour and a 15 minutes before closing, we waited another about 5 minutes before we decided to seat ourselves as the servers were no where to be seen, it was another 5ish minutes before we caught a servers attention where they finally gave us menus, took our drink orders and informed us that the grill was turned off so we could only get fried food. As someone who works as a server at another restaurant, I understand it sucks to have someone come in so close to closing and everyone’s ready to go home but a job is a job and you gotta do it. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with no tomatoes and my girlfriend ordered a 10 count wing with tots. Our server didn’t write anything down and disappeared. until the food came out. My order surprise surprise came with tomatoes, and room temp fries. Our server dropped off our check which had gratuity on it, i’m not sure if that’s every table everytime, but i don’t know if receiving a wrong order and waiting 10-15 minutes to put in said order...

Service was terrible tonight. I've been here before but have never recieved poor service like this. I literally seen my waitress twice in the span of one hour. Once to take my order, another to ask for the check. I was there for about an hour and a half. I don't know where she went. didnt even see her helping other tables. It was like she was just gone. There was a young girl training (Bless her heart) who was checking in on us trying to help a party of seven. But all she could say is "Your wings are coming, your drinks are coming, or your check is coming" I started walking around and asking other wait staff if they could just ring me up because I have to leave. They asked who was my waitress. I replied if you put her in a line up I wouldn't be able to pick her out. I've barely seen her. At this point I'm ready to just walk out and she finally shows up with the check. I give her my card she disappears again. My card was returned about 15 minutes later by another waiter.
