Huntington Park is an awesome place. It used to be a military fort, and much of the old equipment such as cannons and tanks are still present on the grounds. Perfect for any military buffs to stretch their legs and take in the sites. If you like to go for walks or just need a great place to relax, they even have a beautiful rose garden with a pathway and benches. They also have basketball courts, tennis/pickle ball courts, and an awesome kids playground called "Fort fun". My family and I love to go to Fort Fun, the playground is huge, and it offers a selection of jungle gyms, monkey bars, and slides all in the shape of pirate ships and jungle scenery. They have swings for toddlers and swings for bigger kids, too. Next to the park is a large open field perfect for family gatherings with picnic tables and pavilions. The view of the bay is visible beyond the fences, and if you get bored there across the parking lot, there is another walking path that leads to a pier overlooking a beautiful lake. I could go and on about this place and recommend it to anyone looking for a location to have a fun, free...

Fort Fun located at Huntington Park in Newport News is an absolute dream for families with young kids! The playground is huge and incredibly fun, with a pirate ship and treehouse theme that kept my toddler exploring non-stop. There’s so much to climb, swing, and slide on—plenty to keep little ones busy for hours.
We arrived around 8:30 AM and were the first ones there, which was perfect for some peaceful playtime before it got busier around 11:00 AM when the older kids started to show up. That early window was just right for my 4 year-old and me to enjoy the playground and then have lunch nearby the lake in the shade—such a serene, relaxing spot.
There are benches and picnic tables in both the sun and the shade, which made it easy to find a comfy place to sit and eat. I was also pleasantly surprised that the bathrooms were very clean for a park, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
This park really has it all—space, creativity, convenience, and calm. Highly recommend for a kid friendly morning and...
Read moreIt is Bayside, so don't expect to surf or boogey board here. It is a slower, more gentle surf here with marked bouy lines indicating safe areas. It is shallow for quite awhile too so no fear of sudden drop-offs. This is a small place but good for kids or weak swimmers. . Amenities are scarce, so bring your own snacks and drinks, and be kind and responsible to pick up after yourself. I would enjoy seeing more trash cans because some folks are just nasty. There is only one shower tower so you will stand in line to use it. Bathrooms are poorly maintained with a hideous briney, slippery, urine soaked slime. Watch your kids or grandkids here. Footware is mandatory. I noticed several vehicles without placards or disabled plates in some handicapped spots, too. That's not so cool for some, including me,as I am a disabled combat vet. Overall it's a small but cool place if you pick good hours to go there because you can avoid most of the negative stuff...
