A decent facility with friendly staff. Unfortunately, their business and billing practices are deceptive.
My son had an ongoing membership at The Wall, and we authorized them to charge the monthly membership fee to our credit card. In May of 2024 we needed to discontinue the membership. My family—my wife, my son, and myself—personally stopped in at the gym, and we explained clearly to the representative managing the desk that we wished to discontinue our membership. After assuring us that there was nothing more we needed to do to terminate, The Wall then proceeded to make $871 of additional unauthorized charges to our credit card.
Initially I thought that this was simply an error that would be quickly remedied when brought to their attention. That was not to be the case. I visited the gym on July 14 with documentation of the unauthorized charges, and the manager checked the records and confirmed our last date. He wrote to the owner, Adam Evans, requesting the refund. There was no response from Adams. After two weeks. I visited the gym a second time, and the manager apologized and wrote a second time to Adams. No response. I wrote a second time on July 28. No response. The manager apologized and said Adams was “a very busy guy.” I wrote a third time on August 10. No response. On August 18 I then I wrote to the manager saying that I was going to come to the gym again with my son and my wife to discuss this, and the manager said he’d personally get Adams to respond—which he finally did—five weeks after the initial contact. His response? In short, he was going to keep the $871. I wrote to him twice more—and, of course, received no response.
Turns out that when an employee of The Wall promises to cancel a membership, The Wall keeps charging your card. What the employee doesn’t tell you is that in order to actually stop the charges you have to go to a website, fill out a form, etc. Cancelling a recurring charge is a whole lot more complicated than initiating one at The Wall—and charges made wrongfully to your card will not be refunded. Our advice: find a climbing gym which deals in a transparent and honest manner with its clients. NEVER authorize The Wall to take any automatic credit card payments and NEVER accept the word of a Wall employee without getting a...
Read moreAs a beginner climber, I'll be honest, I was a little intimidated the first time I walked in to The Wall Climbing Gym. It would be hard not to be when you're staring at the huge wall they have for the first time- I have never seen anything like it. But, from the second I stepped foot inside the gym, the super friendly staff started making me feel a lot better. After making sure I knew how to climb (and fall, of course) safely, they helped me find the right routes for my skill level. There's already a great little community there that were nice about giving me pointers and encouraging me as I figured things out. It seems like there's something for everyone - some routes I feel comfortable climbing now, and some I couldn't even climb in my dreams. I look forward to climbing here for a long time: the price is right, the training area is going to be awesome, and I'm probably going to step out of my comfort zone a little bit and try out some of the yoga classes that come with the membership... the staff is so enthusiastic, I figure I have to give it a shot. All in all, this new gym is great, and I will be there as...
Read moreJust started climbing here in the last month. Right away you walk in and you can feel the mellow vibe, a place you just want to hang out. I’m only in town for a few months before moving overseas so I asked about options that weren’t memberships. I was pointed to a Groupon that I didn’t know about that saved me a bunch of money on the first month. Sweet.
It didn’t take long at all to become friendly with the staff and have them remember my name. In fact they entered me in a raffle for free stuff during an event they were hosting even though I couldn’t make it. I ended up winning a free month! You don’t find that kind kindness and consideration everyday so it’s really appreciated.
As for the climbing, the routes are super diverse and they reset them on a regular basis with multiple walls rooms on two levels. I just wish I would have come sooner and/or didn’t have to leave after...
