The legal need to Register a vehicle should be supported by the ability of local government to accommodate the process. This debacle started for me at 5am at the Wallington facility on a line 5 blocks long (I am told people arrived the previous evening)! As I opened my chair in the cold and dark I am now followed by a big guy that stands behind me. 2 minutes later he tells me he is hungry and is going to come back so I am directed to tell whoever comes next that he was in front of me" OK? Ha, not happening big guy, get In line with the rest of us.This bastion of society seemed appalled at the resistance to his unquestionable whim and a tantrum ensued before departing. Without a cop in site (unfathomable as hundreds of people including women young and old shiver in the dark) I try to ignore all of the lovely ambiance of the local, seedy environment around me. I sit and stare at my phone for hours. Fast forward to 7:40am and I am handed a numbered ticket to give me a glimmer of hope on the well thought out process. I cling to this shred of over copied paper for another 2 hours (about 10am) before a woman inside the office receives it and tells me I will be called by text message when my number is near to be served. At the very least, this provides a welcomed escape from the unsupervised cattle line to my car. This haven now becomes my home, office and lunch room for another 5 hours (almost 3pm) before I am contacted and given hope that the powers on high will grant me a glorious chance of attaining the heavenly gift of used car registration approval. I get back on the cattle line and am now in the illustrious presence of the cultured staff inside the facility. It is obvious this local staffing has been schooled in business interactive etiquette that all of these institutions have become famous for. Truth to tell, at least the final transaction went flawlessly and resulting in the issue of the plates timely and at approximately 3:30pm. I am out of the house of pain! This is without a doubt, a completely broken public program that treats its unwilling participants no recourse to a stressful , filthy and dangerous environment. The mistreatment is ignored without even hint of public safety provided to this forced abortion process. A single and parked patrol car in the dark of the morning hours would at least have provided a sense of security to the unprotected mass and until the light of dawn. Thanks for the ugly experience that I am sure to remember for years to come. I can only wonder why dealerships are able to provide the same service in minutes while the customer waits in the comfort of a warm, safe and friendly showroom. This technical and laborious marvel of service occurs in every major dealership in America but cannot be duplicated by a private company enterprise and as an alternate to this structured madness for some reason. If this mercy service ever becomes available privately I have only one question. What price would I not pay for...
Read moreI went to the Wallington DMV yesterday to register our car. It took 9 hours. First make sure that you need to be at a vehicle center not a licensing center (Wallington only handles registration, title license plate transactions). Also make sure you can't do what you need to do online - they will turn you away. I got on line at 5:40 am because it took a while to find a parking space. At that time the lot was full - do not park in apartment complexes, other business parking lots or by yellow curb. Bring with you - face mask, chair, water, something to eat, a book, your phone, sunscreen, sunglasses, an umbrella, a pen or two, and all the necessary paperwork. At 8 am they started handing out numbers. I was #170. They handed out 240 yesterday but at 8 am there weren't that many people there so they came out later to hand out the rest to whoever got on line late. (I guess at this point, after you get your number, you could leave the line for a while because you have your number, but I don't know how others react when you try to get in later - most of the people just waited in line with everyone else - almost everyone was friendly - all in the same boat and I spent 9 hours standing near them (tried to social distance) Once you get up to the parking lot, where they give you the number, they also ask about your paperwork - I had to show my title. About an hour later, someone came out with forms to fill out. The line snakes about six times back and forth on the one side of the parking lot. As I said bring the list I mentioned - face mask (required), chair to rest, water - although they have portable toilets all 3 were dirty and disgusting and other stores bathrooms' are closed, food if you get hungry (or bored), a book - I finished one while I waited and used it to lean on to write, my phone (and power pack?) - obvious, sunscreen (I got burnt without it), sunglasses (sun reflects and eyes get tired), an umbrella (for rain or to protect against sun), pen (or make friends in line), necessary paperwork (make sure you have everything you need you don't want to have to come back). One of the DMV supervisors come out later in the afternoon to pass out bottled water or, if you need it, you can have someone keep your spot in line and go to Dunkin Donuts or somewhere to get something. I finally got into the building at 2 pm. Once inside the employees, were pleasant, efficient and willing to help. It only took 20-30 minutes and I was done. I was hot, tired, burnt and dehydrated which is why I am writing this review so others can be better...
Read moreThese folks here are PHENOMENAL. Like most of us I dreaded the thought of having to come here to change license, registration and title. I "assumed" that it would be a horrid day-long affair and I was prepared to deal with it because frankly, the average person has no real choice in the matter. Imagine my ABSOLUTE DELIGHT when I arrived at The Wallington, NJ DMV Location on a Monday Morning. I was immediately impressed with the Officer who directed each of us based upon our responses. Although I thought that I had completed all requirements, he found that I was missing a form and handed that to me. The first person I interacted with inside was ELAINE. She was wonderful and had me complete a few additional items and then sent me to another woman at Info Desk named Eleisa (sp). She quickly reviewed all my paperwork, packaged it for me and then sent me to another area to wait to be called. No sooner did I sit down then I was called to THE MOST AMAZING individual, CECILIA. She was incredible and a real professional, who knew and liked her job. She saw how overwhelmed I was juggling all the various forms for each activity and quickly simplified it for me, writing key information in large lettering so that I could enter it onto my forms. She was sweet, professional, a human dynamo and utterly wonderful in her goodness, charity and empathy. I was floored by all of it and kept thanking her profusely. After Cecilia was finished she sent me to Sandy, another angel who finished up the process with explanations and photos and clarification of my many questions. In total, for all these complex services, considering my move from out-of-state, I spent no more than 45 minutes here. I walked out with my new driver's license, registration and title and my specialized license plates. I was in awe and shock and I must truly tell anyone who finds this hard-to-believe, to simply try it. If you are anywhere near The Wallington DMV Office, come here and see perfection in action. These individuals operate like a well-oiled machine WITH HEART, SOUL AND COMPASSION! I have no other words to describe them for EVERYTHING which they did for me than to say that each of them acted as my Guardian Angel and did it with a compassion sorely missing today in any enterprise, private or public! THANK YOU WALLINGTON, NJ DMV! You Folks are...
