My wife and I read our quarterly AAA Explorer Tidewater Members Edition and the “Found” article. It featured Tom Rhodes Tree Carving Trail - officially the Enchanted Forest. We thought “let’s take a day trip and check it out, along with the town of Warsaw.” We were delighted! The trail is a network of trails that meander through the 12 acre forest with the main purpose of finding the 107 (and growing) painted relief carvings throughout. It’s a treasure hunt! It’s the perfect outing for everyone, but particularly children and parents/guardians. We found 71. And we found Tom Rhodes! He’s a very friendly guy, loves to tell dad jokes, and will help you find any of the carvings you’re looking for. Google limits me to 50 photos. There’s one at the end titled Warsaw that’s not in the Enchanted Forest. See if you can find it. I left the location data tagging on all of the Warsaw photos. We had a wonderful morning, and will return to find...
Read moreRecently, my 7-year-old granddaughter was staying with us and I took her here. She was not very impressed at first because she says there's no such thing as an enchanted forest. But then she became excited about looking for all the different carvings. Especially when there were some that she recognized.I am sixty +. And II enjoyed it. The work involved, it was very enjoyable to see, and I knew most of the carvings. There is a little box with the list of all the carvings, which was very helpful, because then we saw that we only missed maybe one It wasn't until we were heading out when we saw the little area with a map on the wall, which would have been helpful. Had we seen that first, but we still pretty much found everything. Highly recommended, if you just want a fun day...
Read moreOff the beaten path outing for our family on a nice Sunday afternoon. 2 teens, the missus and I loved the charming carvings in the 'enchanted' forest. Spent about an hour going up and down, back and forth hunting the cute creatures hidden in various trees at multiple levels. Helpful end boards not to veer us off. On site parking for 2-3 cars. We were the only souls shouting our finds loud. Walked across the creek on the fallen tree. Kids had a blast identifying the carvings. Helpful list at the front. Can't reveal all secrets here. Must visit for anyone who loves nature, and cartoons! Big shout out to the big heart behind this delight. Easy drive from Richmond especially if you visit one of the state parks in the...
