A hidden jewel of NJ. Smooth and shady hiking and biking trails ( 11 miles + each way) with a gurgling white water SouthvBranch Raritan river flowing alongside in scenic gorges. You will passbook querky cute gnomes and doll houses and scenic cottages and bridges. The only catch is that the trail head parking lot fills up quick, so get there early.

This is a level rail trail and is used by walkers, bicyclists, and equestrian. It is wide enough to accommodate all. This is an especially nice trail for summer use since much of it has tree cover to give you relief from the hot summer sun.

This trail is one of my favorite. So come on down and spend the day. And after a long day on the trail go to the town of Clinton and get something to eat or grab a ice cream.

This is a really nice spot to park and bike or walk. Coffee potter is right here. Parking on both sides of the road. Racks is right here too (consignment clothing). Trail to south is level. There are some slight hills to North. Be careful when going over metal bridge about a half mile North of here by the industrial company. That bridge has one groove in it that my bike tire got into while riding and when I tried to turn a bit I almost fell over because my tire couldn't overcome the groove. After that bridge and one hill, the trail is pretty level for a long way. Trail is crushed stone and gravel, well kept and wide enough for traffic in both directions. Sometimes path has loose gravel or crushed stone so be careful not to turn too quick, it can get a bit loose or slippery under tires. Look closely at maps to find various parking places along the way if you're taking children and need to keep it...

Someone said this is a "level" trail but we found that starting from the Highbridge Columbia bike trail parking it is a steady up hill for the first four miles that we did. Not a bad up hill. As occasional riders around 70 yo it was easy enough. Very pretty scenery with the river below sparkling in the sun and the trees just starting to turn colors (10/8/2021). Highly recommend this trail. One note -- on a Friday afternoon the parking was almost full so I am supposing weekend days...

My wife, our dog (in a trailer) and myself rode from Schooleys Mtn Rd in Long Valley (acroos from Coffee Potter) to Ken Lockwood Gorge. It was warm and humid but path was mostly shaded. With our dog in tow, it was a nice ride. The path was nice and flat apart from that one dip in the trail. There were people in the path either walking (with their dogs), running or cycling. This is a well maintained path and will definitely go...
