Saddens me to leave this review as someone who was within the family of the previous owners, I was expecting it to at least be in good hands. This place has REALLY gone down hill. Been coming here as early as age 4! Specifically came there for the black bean burger advertised on their menu for $16 that comes with avocado… got the burger and it came with things on it that I in fact asked to omit so that wasn’t a good start but upon receiving the bill I was charged $20 for these two burgers. I asked why I was charged more than the advertised price and they told me because it’s not currently on their paper menu that they charge me for a turkey burger. The turkey burger on the menu was actually $18. Even then, they said they had to ring it up as a different item because they don’t currently serve it, but still yet allowed me to order it in the restaurant?? Why couldn’t you have rung it up as something as for $16 if we are going to play a game of make up a price? If that’s the ADVERTISED PRICE ON YOUR MENU! There were multiple burgers on the menu for $16 that they could’ve price matched for my black bean burger but they chose to up charge me and then tell me that they charged me extra for avocado that was already included on the ingredients on the black bean burger. So here are some photos showing it COMES with avocado and that u was charged and on top of it my bill of $40 for two BEAN BURGERS. I did try reasoning with the manager as well as 4 waiters and the manager laughed in my face and proceeded act like a complete jerk. Demanded I pay his price and that I’m being ridiculous. To be charged for a meat burger is ridiculous. So this restaurant makes up prices I guess. Really unfortunate. Every waiter and manager stood at the door as we left and shook their heads at us. I guess I should have read the rest of the reviews.

Came here with friends on Memorial Day, place was absolutely packed to no surprise. Food : we ordered a peach bruschetta with goat cheese, and German pretzel, which were both very good appetizers. The peach bruschetta was especially nice for comfortable spring day. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which was actually perfectly balanced flavor wise. I also really enjoyed the fries Service: because they were absolutely packed, we didn’t get helped immediately with ordering, but our waitress was super kind and constantly checking in on us telling that she would be there and saying that she apologizes, which is a sign of great service me but she did not have to apologize for anything. Ambiance: this is a great place to sit outside and eat at on a nice day. Plenty of patio seating, I was only briefly inside, but look like there was a lot of seating inside as well.

Horrendous customer service! My girlfriend and I stopped by on Memorial Day about 2:00 PM for a late lunch to celebrate her birthday. The inside tables were mostly empty. The outside tables were mostly filled because it was a gorgeous day. They wouldn’t sit us at one of the two empty round tables because we were only a party of two (company policy). The only small table was next to the band’s speakers. The manager gave us a pager and we waited patiently by the bar for a table to clear. About 20 minutes later a table cleared. As we were waiting for the pager to vibrate, a couple of women walked in from the parking lot, past us at the bar and inside the door. A waiter immediately walked to the small table with the women and sat them down. I went inside and told the hostess we were waiting for a small table and showed her the pager. That’s when the waiter came back inside and heard us. He apologized saying he didn’t realize we were waiting, brought us outside to one of the two empty large round tables and sat us. One minute later he was back apologizing again telling us that his manager told him we can’t sit at the big table (company policy). We would have to wait for another table. We walked back inside to talk with the manager and explained how we were waiting patiently, someone else walked right up and took the table we thought was ready for us and now we were supposed to wait for another table. The manager kept stating company policy and that we needed to wait for another small table. We ended up leaving (and the two round tables were still empty). It was my girlfriend’s birthday and it was not a big restaurant day (it’s a big barbeque day). We used to go there at least once a month. The service was tolerable but not great. We had seen other customers leave before getting served on a couple of occasions. They lost me as a customer and I’ve told my friends about our bad experience. I will never spend another dime there again! There are plenty of better restaurants in the area that know what good...

Had a 6 item flight and a bar menu snack plate. Two of the beers resembled the intended style, the Hefe and the Porter. The underattenuated hefe had the yeast flavor resembling the style. The porter, probably an English Brown Porter but called "General George's Porter" (GW's recipe uses molasses - not obvious here to me), was drinkable. The others, including a lager with ale, not lager character, an ale that tasted like a light lager, were all dissappointing.. No need to go on. Left most of it behind. The snack, a trio of "Pulled Pork Sliders" tasted mostly sweet and neutral on proportionally great wads of roll. Chipotle mayo, offered as a fix (and called "chee:PO:til" - and a waiter was told to call the Alt an ayelt, not "Alt" that he had used correctly), came in a little cup colored dark on top from sitting around exposed. Oh, and when I sat down I wondered why there was an unattended meal two seats from me but no customer to claim it. About twenty minutes later the bar person discovered that it was a takeout order for someone waiting at the other side of the bar and they boxed it and sent it out instead of replacing the cold food. The fries were pretty good, considering. Couldn't force myself to finish the sliders, or anything else for that matter. I guess it is like that when there is no serious competition. The original Germans of German Valley are long dead. The food mentioned here is a miniscule sample, more useful for attitude than the broad menu varieties presented. The beer defies the GABF award banners hanging proudly overhead from many years ago. If its beer you want, a short trip north to Hackettstown will reward you with four craft brewers in the thriving NJ craft beer scene who each have at least one very good to excellent beer, albeit in a more...
