The Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove may be the least known memorial in all of Washington, D.C. It's on Columbia Island in the Potomac River near the Virginia side. The island is mainly frequented by bicyclists and runners along the Mt. Vernon Trail that passes through it. There's a marina on the island and one other memorial (Navy-Marchant Marine Memorial) and that's it.
To access this memorial to the president with quite the personality, park in the lot by the marina. They give you three hours of free parking, which is plenty. Walk north through the park named after President Johnson's wife (Lady Bird).
The memorial is an interestingly shaped rock from Texas to reflect the president's interesting personality. There's a green garden surrounding it meant to be used for reflection. There are benches along the plaza.

If you're on the wrong side of the freeway there's no way to get to the other, and there's a large amount of noise from the cars and planes overhead. The best view you can get of the only actual feature to see (the red rock) is by walking up the grass close to the highway. It took around a half hour to walk here from Jefferson memorial, but be prepared for another half hour to the nearest place to access a Lyft or the metro (Arlington station, blue line). Finally, watch out for bikes -- a fair number of bikers and runners seem seem to frequent the path, and they have to share...

Leaving was a nightmare, but I knew it would be. 1.5 hours to get out of the parking lot.. we were probably in the last 40% of cars to leave despite not being parked very far away from the bridge over the water... Our row was just locked, literally no cars in our row moved an inch, or the one on either side for the first 50 minutes, Still possibly worth it. Some guy and his wife were seated all evening, and 5 minutes into the fireworks they stood up, which was...
