Along with FDR Memorial in general, this statue of the Eleanor Roosevelt was a pretty cool site to see! The FDR Memorial park is huge! So much so, that it took me between 25-30 minutes to smoothly walk through it. I'm not a huge fan of the man FDR, (I'll keep my reasons to myself, since I never intend to discuss politics on my reviews) but I still ad mired all the statues and the walls which contained notable quotes from FDR himself, some of which were deep, others not so much. Funny story: as my mother and I were walking through this place, we ran into a group of eighth graders, and this was this tour guide who asked all of them to finish the famous line from FDR: "We have nothing to fear..." I responded: "...But fear itself!" The guide responded: "He knows it...!...and he's not even a member of this group!!" All the people around my mother and I laughed laughed for 5 seconds straight, not AT me, but WITH me!! I felt like flexing my muscles of knowledge in front of the D.C. tourists!! Read moreFranklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is a beautiful and extensive park, thoughtfully designed with waterfalls, stonework, and powerful quotes that make it a moving place to explore during the day. The Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial are visible from the park, adding to the scenery. Free parking nearby and bathroom facilities make it convenient for visitors.
That said, it was disappointing to find the memorial completely dark at night. There seem to be lights installed, but they weren’t working, which made the space feel less inviting after sunset. By day, though, it’s one of the most impressive and peaceful memorials in D.C., well...
Read moreER ranked high enough in this Presidency to get her own section of this sprawling memorial. Her portion sit next to a beautiful waterfall over teetering rocks and blocks, which is a statement to the political climate left after FDR’s passing - stable, but not much more than that. This is such a great memorial - and this is definitely an important part of that story. Always check the NPS site for this and other monuments, as the NPS often has tours of the monuments where they point out facts and other things “hidden”...
