The Waxhaw Skatepark is an amazing staple in Waxhaw. This park has been open ever since I was a kid. Not only was it fun when I was younger, but I still enjoy this park to this day. The skatepark has different levels of hills for all skaters with different experience levels. Some skateparks I have been to do not have a mix of both. It either has a bunch of only small hills or only large hills, but the Waxhaw skatepark does a great job at mixing the two. They even have some hills that would be considered medium level. This skatepark is not only fun to practice skating tricks on but I also enjoy just watching everyone excel from one hill to the next. My favorite thing about this skatepark are the bolted figures set up for decoration, I think these statues show off the personality of Waxhaw very well. There are also painted old skateboards that are lined up on the fence, this piece of art it super urban and fun. The park is always well kept, I have never seen the trash over filled or anything gross on the playground. Overall, it is an amazing park, and kids and teens love it, so...
Read moreThis is an amazing little skate park! It is little, but it's perfect for this little town, and I think it's fantastic we HAVE a skatepark!! The police drive by pretty regularly, and will come quickly if you give the PD a call (not using 911, just call the local PD #). The ONLY issue is that (occasionally) questionable teens will be hanging out here, so I'm always present with my pre-teens 'just in case'. A few teens will be hanging out swearing & smoking & sometimes riding bikes around in the park (bikes are not supposed to be in the skatepark, it's dangerous when they start doing tricks around smaller kids skateboarding). IN FAIRNESS, there are a few older teens that are amazing, they were so polite, supportive and encouraging to my 12-ish skater kiddo! So 'bad-kids' can be avaoided and 'good kids' do exist...
Read moreMy kids and I have been coming here for years, starting during the Pandemic and even now. We drive about 35 minutes out of our way.
Pros: Very accessible for beginners and intermediates (scooter, skates, boards) alike. A large part of it is shaded. Bench areas for parents to watch. Also super fun to bring RC stunt cars (Traxxas, Arrma) to zoom around when the place is empty. The town of Waxhaw also does Sk8 nights, with food trucks, etc., which really encourages a community feel. Playground directly adjacent for parents with little kids who might get bored.
Cons: Very few, really. Can get crowded at peak times. Maybe not the best for folks with advanced skills. For that, I would recommend the YMCA skate park in Charlotte.
Overall, this place is awesome. You’ll see a lot of...
