This location is by far the nicest obstacle course in the area with an adequate number of coaches to safely run the open gym program during a holiday vacation week.
The facilities are excellent and the staff is even better. The coaches are professionals who demonstrate their passion for their sport while showing pride in their workplace. They emphasize the safety of (and for) all the children-I did not see one cell phone being used by the staff as they were too busy coaching children and running the obstacle course.
My 6 year-old son was struggling with the "rollers" obstacle. The coaches rotated through each area of the gym. Throughout the day he encountered three different coaches as he attempted to navigate this obstacle. I was extremely impressed with the consistency of the coaching as the same information was passed to him from each of the three coaches at different times. The place was packed, but they all made a sincere effort to learn children's names as they helped them.
At one point, he demonstrated his frustration and was sitting out for a bit. I attempted to talk him back into enjoying the other obstacles and how fun they can be, but I'm his father, so what do I know.
Coach "P" recognized my son and I were at an impasse.
Coach "P" gave him a minute to settle in after he slid away from me on the bench. She was awesome-helpful and not invasive in any manner! They chatted for a few minutes. He walked back into the obstacles area and committed to conquering the rollers. He was so proud of himself for finally accomplishing a task he worked so hard...
Read moreWe celebrated our son's 11th birthday at Action Athletics in Wellesley and it was AMAZING! The kids had a blast, and it was SO easy for the parents :) All we had to do was bring cupcakes and goodie bags, and the amazing staff at Action Athletics did all the rest! The equipment and gym space is super fun—we had a variety of ages, genders, and athletic abilities at the party (from 7 to 11 years old) and they ALL found fun things to do during the free play, and everyone participated in the obstacle course. The "birthday obstacle course" at the end for the birthday kiddo was super sweet, with all his friends cheering!
The pizza + cupcakes at the end was so easy for the parents, because there was a really kind staffer who put out all the pizzas, cupcakes, drinks, and snacks out, and she facilitated the whole thing, from lighting the candles, to singing "Happy Birthday", to bringing a sword to cut the cake, to passing out goodie bags. It enabled us as the parents to really be part of and enjoy our son's birthday party in a way that is sometimes rare for parents (because usually we are facilitating the party!). Joseph was super friendly and helpful with the check-in process, and both of the coaches were amazing at facilitating the athletics and obstacle courses!
The party was such a memorable experience for all of us, and we would highly recommend Action Athletics to friends who are looking for a high energy,...
Read moreStaff was very friendly. Rating of two stars for false advertising. This place is for children, but it is marketed otherwise. We went on Sunday during the age 12+ hours and the gym was full of little kids. When we wanted to run up the wall for the end of the visit, we couldn't because there was a birthday party of little kids using it (during age 12+ hours). All the parents we met were very nice, as was the staff, but the age 12+ only hours are a sham. They'd much rather have an expensive large group of kids or a birthday party than a few paying adults, and I understand the economic incentive - just please advertise appropriately. P.S. also there is no chalk! This is the only ninja warrior style gym I've ever been to without chalk. You can't do much once your hands...
