Great tour! I saw on the back of some BBQ chips that they had tours of the factory. I went online and picked a day and got tickets really easily. It was a pretty drive over to that part of PA. It was easy to find parking and the walk over to the entrance of the factory was also easy. They have handicap accessible parking and a ramp entrance as well. We checked in at the desk and got our tour group ticket (we were the Ripple Chip group). We were looking at the gift store and planning what to buy after the tour. You can't bring food and drinks on the tour because you are going through a production line and sanitation is strict. Anyway it starts with your group being called into a theater. The tour guide (Emily) introduced herself and we watched a video on some history of Herr's chips (and Herr's food inc). It was a good introduction. Emily lined everyone up after that, told us the rules, and off we went. We stared at pretzels. There are windows overlooking the dough area and the conveyor belts that drop it into the shaping and baking area. You can see how a pretzel and pretzel stick is made. There is also time to ask questions. We had 2 tour guides in training as well and they were really nice and chatted with everyone between rooms. After the pretzels we move on to tortilla chips. Again there are large windows to see everything happening in the factory and Emily explained the process and what we were seeing. There is also a video that is played by the windows so you can get a good idea of what is happening in the machines that you can't really see from the windows. After tortilla chips we move on to pop corn and potato chips. It kind of starts backwards where you see the warehouse and packaging and we make our way up to seeing the potatoes enter the factory and getting washed. It was amazing to see how fresh everything is. Not much is stored, it seems to come straight from the farm into a chip. Then the guides went and got us chips from the line. They were ruffle chips with salt and they tasted so good when they were hot. After that we finish the tour and they even gave us a small back of chips and pretzels to take home with us. We end in the gift shop and I got all the stuff I looked at before entering. It was definitely worth going and seeing how everything is made. It is interesting, fun, and the chips are delicious. I have so many chips at home now. I'm ready for...
Read moreHave you ever wondered what those green spots on chips are and if they're safe to eat? Do you stop when you see a brown spot on a potato chip and wonder whether to remove it or not? I do that and now I know why it happens and if I should discard them. You will learn about that and more. Definitely a conscientious and environmentally responsible company!
Prepare for a truly enjoyable experience that's well worth the hour and 20-minute drive! This tour is a testament to excellence, leaving you with a sense of pride for your state and a deep appreciation for an all-American product with a humble yet inspiring beginning. It's an experience that will leave you inspired and humbled!
On our tour, the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. We were a little late due to heavy traffic from South Philly, but thanks to a helpful staff member who replayed it, we still managed to catch the beginning of the video about the Herr's family legacy at the end of our tour.
Alyssa was our tour guide, and she did an excellent job! She was considerate, thoughtful, and ready to answer lots of questions. She was highly knowledgeable and very engaging. Even as we were leaving in the parking lot, she did not mentally clock out. She was still attentive in answering our final questions, and then bid us a final farewell.
The warm, fresh-off-the-line chips at the end did not disappoint! It inspired me to make some fresh chips with the kids this summer. Thanks to my Herr's tour, I now know the best potato to...
Read moreThe herrs factory tour was amazing!! From start to finish everyone in the facility were super duper nice and friendly! Firstly we were running a bit late to our tour so we called up to notify them of our late arrival and they were very understanding and said they would help us catch up with the rest of the tour. Right away when we got there we found parking easily and went inside. We were greeted very nicely and were asked if we need the restroom before the tour She then brought us in and caught us up. Our tour guide Valerie was awesome and it's because of her that we had such an amazing time! She made the tour so interesting and even made a little birthday party for my younger brother . She gave us delicious potato chips fresh off the oven. Every part of the tour was better then the next . Valerie was so patient with everyone ,playing with the kids and taking the person with the stroller into the elevator and answering everyone's questions and comments! After the tour we were brought to the gift shop where we received free snacks and were shown around . The gift shop is so well stocked and we spent more in the gift shop then to go on the tour!! Shout out to Abby at the front desk !!!! She is awesome!! She and her amazing colleagues spent a while helping us find attractions to go to next. We truly appreciate every single staff member there!! You guys are awesome! Highly recommend everyone to go check it out! Have...
