I saw the Edison house on my atlas and wanted to visit. When I pulled up to the gate, I had my window down and was waiting for instruction from the security guard who stared at me blankly and shrugged his shoulders. I was confused & told him I was trying to see the Edison house. He plainly stated that I need a pass. I then had to inquire about how I get a pass. He told me the visitor center, again plainly. I cannot imagine I am the only one visiting this location who is unfamiliar with the protocols or was surprised to find it inside of a residential neighborhood. With that being said I would assume security guards would be a little less dismissive or combative and maybe provide direction or guidance. When I went back with the pass I kept my window up (because he was rude) and showed it to him and again he stared at me almost as if he was angry that he had to let me in. I do not understand why people do jobs that they seem miserable at. It was obvious to me he enjoys having authority way more than he enjoys interacting with people.
