If you don’t want to read a long review, I’ll save you some time: don’t question it, just go to Stumpy’s Princeton! I’ve been to this specific location a few times, and every time the rustic log cabin feel, the helpful yet not overbearing coaches, and just the thrill of throwing hatchets make for a great time with your favorite people! This review finally needed to happen because of an event I recently hosted here. I knew I wanted to have my father's surprise 60th party at Stumpy's Princeton. Since I first inquired about a larger party, Alisa (one of the owners) was attentive, helpful, thorough and very patient with all of my questions and ideas, all via email from my inquiry date back in April to day of the event on 10/5. She helped reserve our date/time, order the food (we selected the “Perfect Party” package- it was titled appropriately), and made some much appreciated accommodations we requested. On the day of the party we were assisted by staff members John, Alex and Missy who were all very friendly, funny and attentive. They have great personalities and had our guests feeling welcomed from the moment they walked in. Knowing it was a surprise party they told us they would dim the lights to warn our guests in the back that my father was entering the building. Everything worked perfectly and he had no idea until he opened the door to the Deck and saw all of the familiar faces. They put our drinks on ice, helped set up our food when it arrived, and gave plenty of tips and assistance to our guests. They made everyone feel capable of throwing hatchets even with no prior experience. We had some people who had never thrown a hatchet before wind up loving it and actually hitting the target when they didn’t think they could! It was so great to hear the bell dings and excited cheers throughout our crowd. Our guests also loved the games to pass time between throws, especially the shuffleboard and giant jenga. Sending a big thank you to Alisa and her wonderful staff who helped us pull off a very memorable surprise party for my father! They went above and beyond our...
Read moreThis was a very memorable time and birthday for my wife. I had other plans prior but honestly this was a random decision that I didn't regret. I honestly was looking to get lunch here but didn't realize until we got to Stumpy's but that was okay because there was a Brother's pizza that delivered in maybe 10 to 15 minutes (which we didn't notice how fast it really was because we had so much fun.)
To the basics: When we walked in the architecture was extremely clean and oaky. Can't think of a better word but imagine walking in a newly built cabin. The structure was immaculate. We didn't get greeted but we assumed the hosts were busy. We only saw two other couples at their ranges so we came at a nice time (3:30-5:00, Saturday). Once politely greeted we were introduced to our range where we had a fantastic demonstration on how to throw a hatchet. We were shown 2 different techniques. We also had some encouragement from our instructor (sorry I forgot his name) But he was extremely nice and even after leaving and coming back to check on us he gave me and my wife some pointers on what would be our best foot position and he complimented my wife's bullseye she had. My wife was very timid at first and even asked me to grab her hatchet a few times but for first timers she and I felt amazing after the experience. It is the perfect date idea. You both go in with no experience and then you come out together feeling like vikings (metaphorically). We were even welcome to take photos at the photo booth for our memorable time. Which my lady enjoyed most because we don't take pics often. I'd say the only thing we didn't like was that we didn't have more time to keep throwing because she had a facial scheduled. The price was very fair too. Overall we had a fantastic time and my wife said it was part of the best birthday she's ever had and had we not done this she'd probably still say that but this definitely buried the hatchet on this one. (Hope there's no copy right on that haha) Thank you again Stumpy's for another...
Read moreWhat an awesome, unexpected surprise to walk into Stumpy's and find a really beautiful spot with sophisticated decor, and some of the best service I've encountered in this country (thank you Scott!). Also very happy with the Covid-19 protocols - the place was clearly very clean and frequently sanitized. My friend wanted to celebrate her birthday by doing some hatchet therapy, so we were more doing this for her sake, but honestly, what a blast! The place was quiet so we had the super-helpful and hugely entertaining coach to ourselves. The ambience is lovely, the music was spot on (loads of rock classics), and little extras like a great birthday t-shirt and free photobooth makes this an exceptional option for small or larger groups. We brought wine and glasses, along with a small birthday cake, and here the service got even better - we were offered utensils, glasses, bottle openers and just about anything else we could have needed (including our selection of TV channel). We were well-prepared so didn't need anything, but that these were available and offered added another layer of service that you don't find in too many places. Honestly, if this was a bar, it would be my regular. Love it and will be back!
A little hint: don't underestimate the time you think you'll spend here. We booked for an hour as there were only 3 of us but will definitely book for 2 hours next time. Thank you Stumpy's for a...
