Gilbertie's Herbs and Garden Center — Attraction in Westport

I was concerned about visiting Gilbertie’s. I searched the internet looking for organic vegetables and supplies to start an organic garden. I was impressed with what I read about Gilbertie's, until I read one of the reviews. The review stated from a self identified customer as a Hispanic women. The women stated she was treated unkindly and unlike the other customer who were non Hispanic. I became concerned that I may not be treated well considering I am African American. I debated whether or not to make the trip from New Jersey to Connecticut to possible be treated unkindly and with prejudice. I am happy to report! I was treated as were every other customer I observed warmly, professionally, and with great customer service. This was not a fluke as my husband, dog and I visited three consecutive weeks to carry all of the raised garden beds, soil, and plants we purchased to complete our now beautiful garden. So glad we went! I would like to give a special thank you to Deb, she is the customer service manager and she is the epitome of customer service! Deb has gone above and beyond taking time to make friends with our not so friendly Chihuahua. She is obviously a dog owner and lover and it shows, she now has our little girl literally eating out of her hand. LOL! Customer service does not require that! By the way she also offers great customer service to humans too! I felt compelled to write this review because I don’t want anyone to hesitate about visiting this wonderful well stocked complete gardening source. We look forward as the season progress to go back again and again! A big thanks to Deb, she’s the best! It’s no wonder Gilbertie’s is in business almost 100 years, looking forward to celebrating with them next year on their 100 year...

I can’t say enough about Gilberties! The staff’s so knowledgeable and helpful. Joe has helped me with so many plants indoors and out along with many garden tips as well. Extremely Grateful for Joe and Deb! Deb at the desk is the BEST!!! She is so knowledgeable and has helped me with all my needs, questions and concerns. Her knowledge, professionalism and customer service is top notch! Because of this coming and shopping here feels like I am apart of the family. Anytime I have any issue or need anything Deb is always happy to help. I am very grateful for everyone at Gilberties and this phenomenal garden center! You guys are amazing!!! I have always loved Gilbertie's and all they do, plus their importance to our community so I hesitated to post this review. I went there Saturday to buy some annuals and perennials. The stock was running low, which was not that unusual given it's the end of June. However, the staff I encountered were blah at best and cranky at worst. There was little customer activity so it wasn't as if they were busy. Maybe they're just worn out by a busy season. However, I ended up leaving without buying the few plants I had considered.
