Pipes & Pleasures Cigar Lounge — Attraction in Whitehall

I just recently started the wonderful leisure activity of smoking a tobacco pipe. Smoking a tobacco pipe was something that I always wanted to try and thought the tobacco smoke smelled great. When I started to do my internet research on the types of tobacco and pipes, I found that I became overwhelmed. There are literally hundreds of blends, brands and cuts of tobacco. I decided that I would go to Smoker's Friendly nearby and purchase a $20 pipe, and try some different blends and brands of tobacco. When I came home, I read how to pack and light a pipe (very confusing as each author accounts a different way). I found out that I was not very good at it and became a little frustrated. Yesterday, my wife and I decided to make a trip to Columbus to Pipes and Pleasures to explore some pipe accessories, tobacco, and pipes (Pipes and Pleasures is world renowned for it's pipes). Upon our arrival, we were intimidated by all the tobacco and items in the store. We were greeted by Tony Tarantelli, one of the tobacconists. I explained to Tony about my new hobby and the issues I was having with properly packing the pipe and keeping it lit. Tony took nearly 30 minutes of his time even though the store was busy and started from the beginning with giving me a crash course on packing, lighting, and smoking a pipe. Afterwards, Tony explained to me the cuts, blends, and types of pipe tobacco. I learned more about the art of tobacco pipe smoking in that 30 minutes than I ever had reading and researching on the internet. Thank you Tony! I will most certainly return to visit Tony and the store again! Pipes and Pleasures is an awesome shop with tons of items relating to pipes and cigars. They carry hundreds of brands of tobacco, both cigar and pipes. They carry name brand high-quality pipes, but they do not come close to their beautiful handmade pipes that they carve. They have a large humidor for top dollar cigars, a nice lounge to sample the tobacco, and wonderful staff with tons of knowledge. It is a heaven for tobacco enthusiasts and a place that I will definitely re-visit time...

I am not a regular cigar smoker, but enjoy a nice quality cigar from time to time. As a fair-weather smoker, I am no expert, but when I indulge, I like to spring for something quality and tasty.

I came to Pipes & Pleasures on a whim to pick up a cigar for a camping trip, and was blown away by not only the selection, but also the knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff.

Even as a complete novice to all the various options and styles, I was able to tell her the general style of cigars I like and the occasion for the cigar, and was given a handful of options with details on the flavors, as well as pros/cons of each cigar.

I left with an amazing cigar that even some of my more cigar aficionado friends were impressed with, and even had a couple of friends trying to trade their cigars with mine.

I would highly recommend anyone who is either a more full-time smoker, as well as anyone who is just looking to pick something up as a one off occasion. The prices are competitive, and the customer service is reminiscent of time when everything was not so corporate. They are definitely my go-to cigar people now, and if you give them a visit, I think they will...

From the beginning the owner was very hospitable and eager to support our event. The other employees carried that same spirit. In the end, as an inexperienced smoker, they assisted myself and my guests with cigar selections and even personal education on lighting.

Additionally, I am a supporter of Black owned businesses and especially Black Woman owned businesses that operate with excellence and offer great customer service. I would recommend Pipes & Pleasures to any event planners looking for a cool, intimate, space. My event only required space for 20 Guests, my DJ, a vendor, as well as others on my team working merchandise and front door, but I’m sure they can accommodate larger parties as well.
