This 90-minute tour was extremely educational. Our tour guide, Mimi, shared quite a lot of information about Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as the Allen family who lived in the house for 30 years. Mr. Wright was the architect for the house as well as the furniture, and the gardens, or outdoor living area. Tickets need to be purchased online ahead of time to guarantee a place in a tour. The help at the gift store was very friendly, and the tour guide very patient with all of our questions. Be aware that a lot of the furniture is original and has been restored. Because of its pristine condition, the tourists are not allowed to sit on any of it. There is a plastic folding chair if you need to sit down. Also, the house is two stories, which means a climb of a flight of about 15 stairs. Each tour group is small, to accommodate the smaller rooms in the house. This tour was a first for us. Because it was so enjoyable, we now have a desire to find more Frank Lloyd Wright homes and buildings that are open for tours. We are looking forward to learning more about this great...

I've been to this house twice. Our guides knew so much about the house, Mr. Wright, and the furnishings he designed. The architecture and design are amazing, especially when you consider this house was built in 1918. I've always done the 2-hour tour which were very thorough. I don't know what more they could've said or added with a third hour. The tours on the weekend fill up pretty quickly, so book early. On our last visit, we almost didn't get in when we went to book on Tuesday for a Saturday tour. If your group is large enough, they will add an extra tour and your price drops a little. Heads up on kids. Those under 12-years are not admitted. No photos allowed indoors, but...

We did a 1 pm tour with Mimi as our docent. It was over 100 degrees outside so the a/c in the gift shop where we gathered was nice. Promptly at 1 pm Mimi took us outside under a tree and explained 15 minutes of our 90 minute tour would be outside. Thirty minutes (and a lot of sweat) later, we headed into the home. Mimi had lots of factoids about the home. Having been to many of the FLW buildings, some of the facts we were familiar with, and others were new info. The house has been renovated beautifully and being able to go to both floors was wonderful. I would recommend not keeping people outside for extended periods of time when it is very hot. But...

There is free parking at the house. You can only visit the house with a guide. If you want to take photos of the interior, you will have to book the Grand Tour. This tour is limited to eight people. We arranged our visit via email and paid on site on the day. The guided tour lasts between two and three hours depending on the interaction of the participants. We received a very detailed explanation from Martha about the owners, the architect, the house and the works of art.
