Breakthrough Theatre Company — Attraction in Winter Park

Breakthrough Theatre of Winter Park consistently puts together season after season of dynamic and diverse shows that appeal to all audiences. Their may not be a more inclusive community of performers, and patrons in the city.

The theater is an intimate black box theater, that creates an immersive show experience, with no bad seat in the house. Wade Hair, owner and founder of BTWP, genuinely invests his all in everything that goes on the stage, and does his best job supporting and marketing visiting shows.

Additionally, the BTWP has annual summer camps for kids of all ages who are interested in being a part of the show. These camps are affordable, and many students are sponsored and receive scholarships to go for free. Wade's passion for theater, teaching, and investing in these kids shows through the weekly performances, AND his continued work in providing scholarships for who are not financially able to afford the camp.

Finally, it is very clear from an outside perspective (I have never stepped foot on the BTWP stage) that once you join the BTWP family, you're apart of something special. I attended the Friday night performance of RENT along with 6 others. We got there minutes before the show time, so we were not able to sit next to each other (don't underestimate how small 40 seats is) so be early if you'd prefer not to be separated. I didn't mind because I was enamored with the performance the moment it began. A smaller theater also makes the show immersive and you don't have to worry about any microphones distorting the singers' voices.

I am partial to RENT, but there were songs I had never even heard (adapted for the play version) and it was phenomenal from start to finish. The coordinators, cast, and crew have a passion for theater/art, and are good people dedicated to entertainment and quality output. I was impressed and surprised by the amount of talent and truly appreciated the almost uncanny casting. The performers were so perfectly suit for their roles which is a testament to the casting director or their ability to act. The play was consistent to the story line and I appreciated the attention to detail in all aspects, including the excellent use of staging. What a great experience and nominal price...
