I rarely write these reviews. But when I get great service, bad service, or something that inspires me to write one... well, then I feel obliged to post my experiences. That being said, I've brought three separate items to be fixed at Deltronics in the past three years, so this review is based on those experiences.
The first time they fixed my CD recorder within 2 weeks with no problem. I was happy with that. Cost: $150
The second time I brought in my guitar amp, which had a problem with the power dropping out intermittently. They took 3 weeks to "fix" it, but when I brought it home it still had the same problem. I brought it back to them and it took another week or so, but they finally got it right. I'm not thrilled about making multiple trips, but they did get it right the second time around. Cost: $150
So, I gave them the benefit of the doubt after the second transaction, and recently brought them my powered PA speaker that works ok, but has some annoying static noise that's fairly audible when you're not playing. It took them over a week before they could even look at it. The front counter girl called and told me that the repair would cost $150
But that's not the worst part. They told me it would take FOUR WEEKS to get to it and fix the problem.
So, they had the speaker opened up to diagnose the problem, but they couldn't have called me right then and there for approval to fix it while it was opened up?
When you're a professional musician who gigs 2 or 3 times a month, you can't have your PA system tied up for 5 or 6 weeks. And why does each repair require always seem to require 2 hours of repair at $150 ??
So, I called the company who made the speaker and they sent me an entire new amplifier section for a total of $136 (including shipping).
When I called Deltronics back to tell them I'd be picking up my speaker due to the lengthy turnaround time, the guy on the phone told me... "oh, I can get it done today if you need it". (Please refer to my prior question about why they couldn't have done that when they had it opened up)
I ate the $50 fee they charge up front and opted for the (new) replacement amp from the manufacturer.
It seems to me that Deltronics needs to hire more technicians to handle their work load. So, I'm going to find another place that's a bit more expedient, fixes the problem correctly the first time around, and doesn't have the same 'one-price-fits-all' repair cost...
Read moreI brought my fender twin reverb guitar amp in for repair. They repaired it. Five months later, after minimal play (lawyer with two young kids), the amp emitted a burnt rubber smell and was overheating by the tubes Deltronics replaced.
I tried calling the store and left a voicemail that was not returned. I brought the amp in a few days later. I got into a warranty dispute with the receptionist. She condescendingly tried to explain warranty law to me. I told her that I'm a lawyer. The receptionist showed me the 90-day warranty language they print out on their receipts (doesn't exculpate them) and said, "I'm sorry you're a lawyer who can't read". I took my amp back home, but not before asking the receptionist if they check their voicemails. She replied, "we usually do."
The owner called me later and tried to smooth things over knowing that I was considering going to small claims for the damage. By the end of the conversation, I considered bringing the amp back in
Upon further reflection, no chance. I'm revolted by the behavior of the receptionist and would never consider doing business with them based on her conduct alone. While my (justifiable) frustration was clear during our back-and-forth, I. never personally insulted her. Based on the other reviews out there, it appears that I'm not the first person to be treated poorly by this individual.
The owner indicated that he's one of the only amp repair guys in town. That may be the case. If I can't find a repair shop in reasonable driving distance that works independently of Deltronics, I'll...
Read moreI have a vintage Technics receiver that I acquired recently and wanted have serviced due to its age. There are no good hifi repair shops in my area. Originally, I was considering taking my receiver to another Illinois based repair shop but they do not accept mailed items, only in-person drop off. I went to Deltronics instead for the convenience of being able to ship them my receiver. I made sure to package it securely because mail carriers are not gentle on packages. After it returned from servicing it was packaged using my original box and all was well except that it still had a minor electrical issue. I was annoyed that they didn't catch this when they tested it but I sent it back under warranty anyway using the same packaging. When it was returned the second time they did not use my packaging, but instead put it in a smaller box with only bubble wrap and loose paper. During shipping the left wood panel of my receiver was impacted and knocked loose from its brackets. The vinyl was damaged in two places where the package was dropped and the packing material was not sufficient enough to protect it. The damage is only cosmetic as fas as I can tell. I was able to repair it enough that a casual observer would not notice it. Overall, Deltronics repaired my receiver adequately but in the future I will take my hifi gear elsewhere when I need repairs done because I cannot overlook their shoddy packaging. I guess the lesson is don't trust things that are fragile and valuable to the mail. Take them in-person and...
