There was a lot to like about this room and the staff. Clean room with kind multi-lingual desk attendants. It's within 12-minute walking distance of two subway lines and located in a nice enough area. Loved the bakery around the corner! Unfortunately I disagree with Poetry Building's policy (as of 2024) of not informing customers about planned construction until after the customer has already booked, and downplaying the impact it would have on their stay. After I booked, I received an email stating there was planned construction next door but "rest assured that we do not expect any disturbance to your stay as a result of the ongoing project." It also stated the paid price had already been discounted... but it's the off-season and many places are discounted, construction or not. We agreed to the stated price assuming it was under usual circumstances, so being told after booking that it was a discounted price due to construction wasn't compelling.
And the construction absolutely did disturb our stay, from around 7:30am to 5pm every day but one. Based on the email we were prepared for some noise but this was headache-inducing and relentless. Hours of jarring, echoing hammering and drilling on what sounded like the other side of the wall. We got ready quickly each morning and tried not to come back until evening if we could help it. The desk attendant told us to let them know if the construction was a problem and they'd make arrangements next door to adjust. We asked for such an adjustment to be made on one day so we could finally sleep. They were kind and I'm sure did their best, but the construction noise started up same as usual on that day. I know you can't always control the sounds around you in a city but I didn't appreciate the lack of transparency and the failure to successfully help, after offering, when we spoke up.
My caution to readers is that there may be construction planned for when you're booking; if you're informed after booking of construction they may be underestimating the noise level; and after you arrive and they offer to make an adjustment, they may not actually be able to help. I hate to leave a poor star rating when there was such kind staff who was accommodating in every other way, but the terrible sleep really impacted our trip. We left survey feedback to this effect several days before leaving this review. If Poetry Building increases their PRE-BOOKING transparency this will be a great place.
Edit: I appreciate the owner's response. It mentions an offer to change rooms which I don't understand; I don't think we...
Read moreMy husband and I spent 10 days in January at the Poetry Building. It was great in every respect. The apartments were immaculate, sunny and well furnished right down to details such as BA maps, coffee, wine, premier bedding, good-quality kitchen utensils fast wifi -- even a small sound bar we could use to amplify music from our phones. After nearly every long day of sightseeing, we relaxed with our books in the rooftop lounge area near the dipping pool. If I could give the staff a rating higher than five stars, I would do so; all we had to do was mention something we needed, and they were on it -- arranging transportation, making reservations, changing money, etc. Initially we chose Poetry because of the location. It is in an area of Ricoleta where we had stayed during earlier trips to BA. Although it's in the city center, it is a leafy neighborhood with good restaurants on every block. Within a one-block walk, we could pick up empanadas and desserts at our choice of bakeries; buy fresh fruit and veggies at open-air stalls, pick up special cuts of meat from the butcher and stock up on everything else at a full service supermarket. Even more important, the neighborhood -- and Poetry, itself -- reflects the architectural charm and elegance of BA, a main reason for our visit. We definitely will choose it for...
Read moreWe stayed at the Poetry Building for 2 weeks in October, when extensive renovations were taking place. We were well aware of this before we arrived and Poetry was decent enough to offer a discount for the inconvenience. We were in 4B and there were some work noise above us but they didn’t start too early and ended by 5pm. We were out exploring most of the time so it didn’t bother us too much and even when we stayed in, we were not too affected as it wasn't non-stop and moved around. Despite this, we loved our stay for the following reasons:
Staff were amazing, so welcoming, helpful and friendly (thanks to Sol, Carlos and Neoli). The 1-bedroom apartment was beautifully decorated and had everything you need. The large bed was one of the most comfortable and we slept really well. We loved the convenience of the cleaning and laundry service, which were excellent. We managed to sit out on the balcony most days which was lovely. The location couldn't be more convenient, close to many cafes, restaurants and shops for our daily needs. It was very central for walking to most of the sights.
There were a few minor quirks (no USB sockets and some door handles were a bit loose) but nothing that spoilt our stay at all. We highly recommend the Poetry Building and it should be perfect once the renovations...
