|I am not one to normally complain but this accommodation is shocking Sadly after staying here multiple times before for hospital appointments/surgery's and never having an issue before, this stay was by far the absolute worst, I am not sure if management has changed but the nice guy that is usually there wasn't there this time and we will definitely never be back, we are a family of 7 (2 adults, 5 children, one is a newborn and one has a significant disability and in a wheelchair and 3 older child (13,9&7), we were put in a room which they called the sports room as they were booked out on other rooms that would fit us, at first we thought this room was fantastic for size and we were extremely happy, it was across from the reception and right next to the pool and smoking area my partner and I are smokers and the smoking area is about 10 steps from our room door, our baby was asleep and our other kids were watching a movie so we decided to go for a smoke together, I could see through the blinds so I new what my other children were doing, we were out of the room for about 2 minutes and my older 2 children looked through the blinds and waved to their dad through the window, one of the staff members walked passed the window they were looking through and i made a comment to him "are they peaking" next thing I new 3 staff members came out of the reception area and were looking through the windows trying to see past the blinds, my partner and I ask if there was a problem to which we were told the kids were "running a muck unsupervised" I responded by saying they sound pretty quiet to me, opened the door and they were sitting on the couch watching tv, we wouldn't have even been out of the room for 5 mins, they were then told not to look out the blinds as they are fragile and a couple of the chain links came unclipped, okay fine, we told the kids not to do it again, and I reattached the chain links, we then felt like the kids weren't able to do anything without being judged, we seen the staff members multiple times walk pass and look through the gap in the blinds into our room, I took my older kids to the pool area to have a look and each time we went there someone would come out and look into the pool area at what we were doing which made it extremely uncomfortable, after leaving the pool area and going back into our room we got a knock on the door saying someone rang reception from this room yet no one had touched the phone as the kids were with us the whole time, when we said that we were told "it must have been some other ratbag kids" it felt like they were picking on our children for no reason yet there were other kids running around the car park, kicking balls where the cars are and screaming and they were not told to stop yet our kids that were just sitting down watching a movie were "running a muck?" It got to the point that we wanted to leave after the first night but my son had surgery and we needed to stay close to the hospital, the second night we had other kids running and knocking on our door and running away at 10pm at night multiple times until I went to find the parents to ask if they could get them to stop, we then had a staff member shining a torch into our room at 11pm, It was an extremely uncomfortable stay and our privacy felt invaded, when room service came they took the dirty towels but never replaced them, the beds didn't get remade, the tea towels had food all over it and I had to wash it in the sink, the rooms are okay, old and not overly clean. We are mainly upset over the new management as you shouldn't be made to feel like that when staying somewhere and constantly getting checked on/ someone looking through your windows. Wouldn't recommend this accommodation to...
Read moreStayed two nights at the Cedar Lodge Motel as it was one of the closest motels I could find to the JCU Campus. I asked if I could leave my bag for the day, as my plane had flown in early, however was pleasantly surprised when the gentleman at reception offered to change my room so that I could check in straight away. He then explained where bus stop was, which happened to be only 100 metres up the road. Perfect. This bus goes to the hospital first and then the University, with the trip taking about 15 minutes. For the return, as you would imagine, the bus stop is across the road. Stockland shopping centre is about a 10-15 minute walk the other direction. I caught the bus from uni to Stockland to do some food shopping, and then just caught the bus back to the motel as I had purchased a day ticket ($6.20) in the morning. Very handy with bags of shopping! The room was average. Mismatched cups, blanket in cupboard looked a bit grubby, and kitchen utensils so-so. However bedlinen and bathroom were clean, as well as room having a microwave, crockery and cutlery to make a few meals. Did feel a bit strange only having a bathroom sink for kitchen utensils, but didn’t really worry me. My room over looked the four lane road, so no view to speak of. This was of no concern however, as I was not staying on holiday per-se. I thought I may not sleep well due to the traffic noise, but the bed was comfortable and the air conditioner was nice and cool, so I slept like a baby. If you are looking for a no-frills friendly motel, with kitchen amenities, convenient to bus stop for hospital, uni and Stockland Shopping centre, I would recommend Cedar Lodge Motel. I was going to rate 3 Stars, but have added the extra star due to my checkin...
Read moreMy wife and I travelled up to Townville to visit a friend in the Hospital and this Motel was the closet and as it turned out not the best option. We booked a room on their web site at the advertised rate of $155 and that's when the surprises started. In the next step of the booking when you advise who will be staying there there is a surcharge of $10 for a second person staying in the room. To say that wife of almost 48 years was most annoyed to find out we had to pay to sleep in the same bed and was considered to be an "optional extra" is an understatement. BUT it didn't stop there. When you finalise your account there is another surcharge if you pay by credit card as if anyone carries hundreds of dollars in their wallet these days.||||All in all a room that, according to their web site was to cost $155, in reality cost us $167.48.||||Given that this Motel is an old very, very average place with no personal amenities provided it's pricing can only reflect that it's the closet Motel to both JCU and the Hospital and that's what you pay for.||||We will be back in Townsville again soon to visit our friend at the Hospital but we won't be coming back to this place. There are a lot better and cheaper places to stay even if they are a bit further away from the Hospital.||||Caveat...
