Mcguires Hotel — Hotel in Mackay

Bar staff checking me in were great. First room stunk of smoke. Not the kind of stink that you will get used to after a few minutes, no it stunk bad!! Asked for another room. Again, the staff were great. Second room did not stink so was a winner. Closed the door and a pre-historic sized cockroach crawls into the non functioning air con. This roach was huge!! This room with the non functioning air con but Jurassic Park roach only cost me $40. The mould/smoke stinking room with a functioning air con would have cost me $50. Also another great thing about these rooms is the ambiance of the pub below pumping through the floor and the soothing sounds of each minute noise one of my fellow room mates emanating from the neighbouring rooms. All in all, quite terrible. ||Last week I stayed at a room at the Metropolitan Hotel in Mackay for $50. The staff were very helpful, the room was quite clean, the bed was acceptably comfortable and there was very little noise from the pub or the next door rooms....

I am a female solo traveler. I chose to stay here because of good reviews, cheap price for accommodation and the central location. However, I did not enjoy my stay as much as I had expected to. Good points: -Helpful, friendly and relaxed staff. -Cheap accommodation -Central location Cheap food in pub downstairs

Bad points: -Dim and dingey room with musky smell -Bathroom, specifically the shower, looked as though it hadn't been cleaned between guests and dripped constantly -During the day, shouting, cursing and doors slamming(this could have been another guest) -At night music in downstairs pub carried upstairs till 3am (if you cant fight it, join it) -Cigarette burn holes in bedding -Dirty and smelly refrigerator -Staff communication

I, personally, would not...

Only 3 stars for location due to me driving a heavy vehicle but actually is 5 stars as at night have the pub with pool tables down stairs night club not even 100m and if U just need a place to stay for the night the prices are very affordable and air-conditioning is a must (the aircon I had was a bit noisy) shower was so hot it was great but careful with the high temp water as this can scold anyone, but for cheap accommodation if U are on a budget ect not a bad place to spend a night when passing through but this place is not suitable to park trucks at all being located right in the heart of town, but the best thing is being surrounded by coffee shops when departing in the morning..... And that alone deserves an...
