Quest Mackay on Gordon — Hotel in Mackay

Very poor first experience with this place. I regularly come up every 6 weeks for work and wanted to give this place a go but ran into some complications before the trip. Had a lot of miscommunications between my travel agency and this place and with no empathy or flexibility for the situation, both flat out lied to me and my travel agency and demanded the entire bill of $830 be paid when I never stepped foot in this place or was contacted. I have phone logs and have confirmed the phone number they “called” was correct and they were adamant they called it yet funny it doesn’t seem to show up there. I called my work travel agency and they also said the details this hotel gave was fishy as they said they couldn’t get a hold of them even with a 24/7 call centre…… hmmmmmm. Majority of hotels only charge the first night if you don’t show to a reservation so it’s clear management here’s pretty desperate as they were really driving home the fine print “t’s and c’s message and that since both me and my travel agency were “uncontactable” they would charge me the full amount and refused to accept any proof to say they didn’t call. They came up with the grande excuse that this isn’t the case as they were completely sold out for all 3 nights and therefore missed out on business when many colleagues have told me this place is never sold out. It’s actually pretty obvious…. Mackay hotels never sell out or even reach half capacity…..so they just wanted an easy money grab to make their books look better. Speaking with the manager Mandy it’s clear she’d rather go on a tangent of authority and passive aggression than treat her customers like humans rather than cash cows, regardless if she could provide a solution or not. Anyway, I’ve spoken to coworkers and the company I work for and we’ve just decided it’s not worth the risk of poor experience with this place and will be bringing our business elsewhere. The room are very spacious, with kitchenette, the sofa can be used as bed, It's very open and clean. Everything are working in order. The office table had charging Dock attached and ready to use. Great for business travellers. Wifi also included which is a plus . The bathroom is bigger comparison to normal bathroom hotel and washing machine and dryer are also inside the bathroom. It's well maintained room even the hall way carpet are cleaned. It's nearby coles, jamaica blue and burger urge very convenient location. Managers and staff are friendly, they called and inform us regarding the keys of the hotel which is great service. (arrived 02.01.23) The only downside is the house cleaning are not consistent. Tuesday are amazing, they done up my bed,(which I do anyway) but not to the extend the way she do it) unload the dishes in the dish washer and empty all the rubbish, whoever on that day should be acknowledge if they keep doing with that kind of service it would be more than 5 star. Wednesday and Thursday, they just empty the rubbish. It's a bit slack on that days. An exceptional apart-hotel with first-class service. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a welcome letter on the table, the air conditioning already set for comfort, a couple of chocolates, and soft jazz playing on the TV—an admirable focus on details. The room was outstanding, offering a beautiful high view and high-quality amenities, including four pillows (a mix of thick and thin). The kitchen was impressively equipped, featuring a fridge, freezer, stove, cutlery, dishes, a dishwasher, and more. The dining table was versatile, perfect for enjoying meals or using a laptop. The living area included a cozy couch and a large TV. The bathroom stood out with a washer and dryer, adding to the convenience. They also offer a hair dryer, shampoo body wash and conditioner. While the overall experience was excellent, I noticed three minor issues: the absence of a door in the shower area, which caused water to spread onto the bathroom floor (as shown in the attached photo), the need to manually open the kitchen's trash bin, and the lack of napkins or paper towels.
