Will never order takeaway from here again. Food rating at bottom of review.
So I called to place a takeaway order. No answer.
I tried to download the app but rather than a link, they have a QR code on their PDF menu? Did they think I would have a 2nd phone to scan it with while I had the PDF open on my first phone?
I placed an order online, thru there wildly un-user friendly app. That required me to set up an account and sent me a one time password.
The order said a 90mins wait, and counted down on the app. I realised according to their Google maps business hours they close in a few minutes. I rushed down to collect my order to realise. They don't close at 8:30pm as advertised and my food would be another 30mins. The girl at the front counter offered to call me when my order was ready.
She never did.
I came back at 9:32 even though no one called. I placed my order at 8:06pm. So as app predicted was a 90min wait for food.
Chicken Tikka was bland and kinda dry Raita was actually amazing! They use fresh herbs Nann bread was burnt but they did use fresh herbs. Sauce for chicken Korma was nice but the meat was low quality.
For a nicer resturant the presentation and packaging of the meal was more like street food.
Response to owner: Thankyou but given you've stated in your response I can expect the 1.5-2hr wait to be a regular occurrence, that being short staffed is standard and the food will presumable taste the same. I'll decline. Thankyou...
Read moreFor New Years by partner and I had planned a brief stay in Mackay for a few days while visiting family. During our last night there, December 31st, we had takeaway dinner from here and were planning of leaving about dawn for the long drive back home. However roughly 5 hours later I had personally suffered from mild food poisoning. This of course delayed our motel stay by an extra night costing us and other family travelling with us at least an extra $400. When called to merely ask for a refund for the $100 we spent on dinner Raj had claimed “It couldn’t be us, it takes at least 24hrs for Food Poisoning to happen. Ask the people you had lunch at.” We had a store-bought soup for lunch and symptoms tend to occur within 6 hours (sometimes even half an hour from experience).
After such he did say he would refund the meal cost. It has taken until today 2 and a 1/2 weeks later for him to do so. The posted reasoning for the refund was also classified as “unhappy”, considering the wild delay, quickness to blame others and the Food Poisoning that took a couple couple days to mostly recover from I suppose you ‘could’ say we’re unhappy.
I feel I should say that despite this incident that all other staff we had spoken to before and after this have been nothing but accommodating and polite. So thank you to everyone else that works there other than Raj and whoever gave me...
Read moreA fine Indian dining experience is often rare. Roshini by Raj is one such Indian restaurant that ticks the box in Mackay.
As a foodie Indian from Mumbai who can cook cook well, I will be honest that I was not blown away by the taste of the dishes I had ordered, but I found nothing in the taste to be unhappy about either even though I had to wait for a table for 90 mins due to not having booked earlier on a Saturday evening. That’s my bad and the staff kindly accommodated me later.
The Dal Tadka with Basmati rice was wholesome and homely, reminding you of the rich tempering in Chana dal in every morsel; the Paneer in Panner Tikka Masala was soft and fresh although the gravy/sauce revealed lack of fresh tomatoes in it. The wholewheat tandoori roti was a fine balance between crisp and soft- cooked in a real clay oven tandoor, perhaps. What topped the experience for me was the service quality. Friendly and caring staff ensure your dining experience is excellent, timely and memorable even on a busy Saturday night.
I will highly recommend Roshini by Raj if you are in Mackay.
Edit : I went in the second night again to R by R: The palak paneer was fantastic - tasted of freshly puréed Spinach and the soft paneer again. The Gulab Jamun dessert was the softest, melt-in-the-mouth version I...
