We found it very tired and dusty. We know old places can be dusty but we have stayed at many similar cottages in Tasmania on our travels on numerous occasions but never had this problem. We all had the sniffles by the time we left. You class this as 4 Star. The kitchen facilities were not up to standard to cook proper meals, as we wanted to as we did not want to go out every night and enjoy a bottle of nice bottle of wine at home with the fire for an experience. The fry pans should be thrown out and not even enough utensiles to cook with.||||One of the dining chairs the upholstery was totally ripped exposing the foam and another starting to rip.||||There was no fire lighters or paper to light the fire when we arrived and we had to collect kindling and split wood. We had to go buy fire lighters and scrounge for paper.||||The bathroom door would not close even if you tried to bang it closed, so we could only close the best we could - no privacy.||||The bathroom walls had insect droppings down the walls so when you were in the shower that is what you saw.||||There were cobwebs on the walls and in corners of the ceilings in all rooms.||||There was a spot light bulb out in the kitchen and an outside bulb gone too where you had to walk at night to the back door.||||There were leaves up to the stairs at the back door. And overgrown bushes everywhere.||||Then to top it off. The TV did not work at all no reception. My Partner discovered that the TV aerial was so old so no wonder. ||||Thanks to the local Manager, who was just lovely and responded to our call and got someone to fix the bathroom door so we had privacy when going to the toilet and shower. Also getting a new TV aerial once that was done the reception of the TV was perfect. It was not poor reception because of the location.||||We were not impressed. We feel that you should pay more attention to your property if you want to class this as a 4 Star property that you advertise and we paid was for a 4 Star property. Very expensive for what we got. ||||Commented to the owner on our return and got not reply at all. That is not good. Will not recommend and will never stay...
Read moreWe have travelled quite a lot and this is the first place we have ever considered just leaving and paying for some where else instead.||We stayed in the two bedroom side, which faces South onto the road. Although we stayed in summer, we found it to be freezing cold and so, so dark (with a damp smell). It seemed to be far colder than outside at all times. There was wood in the shed, but no kindling (or axe to chop our own), or anything provided to start a fire. We ran the little electric heaters, which helped, but not a lot. ||The bedrooms were by far the nicest part of tbe house, and we had no issues with them. The lounge/dining/kitchen area was however a little depressing, and not a relaxing place to hang out. The couch and chair were very aged, both facing the fire that we couldn't use. The kitchen was not very sufficient for cooking meals in either. Pots were fine, but the fry pans were bent out of shape, so they didn't sit flat on the electric stove, we murdered our fish trying to cook them on there. Only one tray in the oven, which was dirty and there wasn't anything like baking paper or alfoil to cover it, so we weren't game to use it. Basic plates, bowls etc were fine thogh.||Bathroom had an in bath shower, perfect for us and a toddler, but I wouldn't recommend for anyone with any mobility issues. ||No laundry facilities on site, so you need to go into town and use the laundromat. ||Garden was overgrown, we had to pick who would need to step out into plants each time we parked & there was nowhere for our toddler to play outside. ||And did I mention it was dark? :) so, very dark! Perhaps washing the very dirty windows would help, but I suspect with the southerly orientation and dark colour scheme inside, that it wouldn't help that much. ||If you are just looking for somewhere to sleep, I am sure it would be fine, but definitely don't count on it as a place to hang...
Read moreWe loved Strahan, such a quaint town, with lots to see and do. As a base to enjoy the region, the cottage was adequate, but needs some extra care, and money spent to bring it to the standard of all other accommodation we stayed at around Tasmania.||Plates were dirty, the freezer frozen over and we had to push a chair against the bathroom door to keep the door closed. It was unusually hot when we were there and we found the cottage stale and airless, couldn't leave doors or windows open because there were lots of flies about and no screens on doors or windows. There is a For Sale sign out the front, and we were left with the impression that the owners are just going through the motions, making money as they can, without investing any into improvements and upkeep.||With an injection of funds and attention to detail this could become a quaint old-style cottage experience, but in its current state was quite...
