The rooms were mediocre, and the location was great right next to a grocery store and everything surrounding was beautiful. But the staff were incredibly rude. My boyfriend and I were advised by the government over text, along with several other tourists in the area to leave the area as there was an incoming cyclone. We are not from here, so we weren’t aware of how bad conditions could get and weren’t wanting to risk it. The motel refused to refund us for the nights we wouldn’t be there even though we were being advised to leave, especially considering the grocery stores were bare. The lady at the front desk raised her tone with us and said “I’m not your mother you choose to leave or to stay.” My boyfriend and I then left, paying for the next three nights in not one but two hotels. Which put a pretty large damper on our vacation funds.
I have travelled and stayed in many hotels in many countries, And have (never) been so dissapointed with how we were spoken to. Unless you are willing to stand at reception for long periods of time getting talked to like complete rubbish, I would strongly advise to go somewhere else. The worst service I...
Read moreDuring my stay at the very affordable Cairns Gateway Resort from mid March to mid May I stayed in a relatively large airconditioned (box type) studio room that fully satisfied my needs. The room and good size bathroom were clean and had a fresh smell. Although the resort is located near the Bruce highway the room was very quiet, ensuring a good nights sleep. The king size bed was very comfortable. Amenities included a wall mounted TV, small fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, plates and cutlery sets for two, hair dryer, ironing board and an iron. Free WiFi is available in the room. Ground floor rooms have a patio with a small table and two chairs, first floor rooms have a balcony. The resort grounds are very well maintained and the sizeable pool was very inviting during the warmer days. Very clean electric BBQs are located near the pool, and coin operated laundromats and a car washbay are located within the resort complex.
I always had a great experience with the Gateway Resort and the Staff was always very pleasant and most helpful. I will definitely try to stay at the Gateway Resort again during future...
Read moreHorrible Experience. Very Unprofessional Business. It was quite confusing about not being able to book for 1 or 2 nights. Had to pay 4 nights upfront. Sitting on the balcony, I inhaled smoke from downstairs, while I tried having my morning tea. It was uncomfortable. Long-term residents who are homeless or unemployed lived at the hotel. I didn't feel very safe. When I had to move rooms, my floor and balcony was filthy, as I had black feet. I enquired about the cleaning which caused hugh conflict and in the end, I got the mop and cleaned my own room, which I paid for. The Manager didn't care how I felt. Sad :(. The following morning, my fridge was defrosting all my food. I told the Reception which they said someone would come to fix it and hung up the phone on me. They couldn't give me a time when it would be fixed. Manager and staff were rude to me, talking about me and saying personal things about me. I felt bullied when they wanted to call the police even they didn't have the decency to help me book a Taxi or anything. I was shaken by the whole...
