Checking in experience was OK. The room is in very much in need of a facelift. Main room bedroom door was delaminated which meant u had to close the door from the outside of the room via the ensuite/laundry.
Upon opening the cupboards for cooking equipment and plates etc, there was a distinctive smell of dampness, not nice at all. Drier old and did not function. All kitchen cupboards/ensuite and second bathroom cupboards need replacing.
The linen was clean and beds were comfortable enough. I would suggest the entire unit needs a professional clean, including all walls, ceilings and the top of the fridge hasn't been cleaned since Noah was a boy.
The most disappointing aspect were the ridiculous motion sensors placed on all air cons in the unit. As they are present by management we were unable to adjust the room temp any lower than the pre set temp of what felt like around 23 degrees.
Given it is north qld in the height of the summer period, it would have been nice to be able to cool the room to a comfortable temp, when arriving back to the motel.
The air con is programmed to turn off after a set period which was approximately 30 mins, I know this because I was eating dinner in the kitchen and the air con unit in the lounge turned off. There is a sign on the wall saying if housekeeping find aircons on they will be turned off and that a fee may be charged for not shutting off the air con.
While i understand electricity is expensive, prehaps raise ur tarrif a bit to cover the cost. The cost of running your business is not my concern. The same in bedroom, if u don't move at night it turns off. Not what was advertised with regard to air conditioned rooms. Taking away the right of someone to set an air con at a temp that is comfortable for the individual is wrong.
We also had a drier that died during our visit, went to reception at 2:35 pm [ reception closes at 3pm] but none was there. We saw the weekend manager the next day and in fainess we were offered coins to use the guest laundry.
This motel/apartments are listed as a 3 & 1/2 star but in truthfulness should not be rated anymore than a 2 star accommodation. I would not recommend to anyone I know to stay here at this point in time.
** Update to owners response. Please own the fact that ur establishment is in desperate need of updating. I physically went to ur office at 2:35pm and the sign on your door said closed, and no evidence of anyone, is this a fabricated lie on your behalf or are you publicly calling me a liar? As to blocking me I would rather sleep in my car than book again at this motel. Reading other reviews left by other people it echo's my sentiment, we can't all be telling porkie pies, so maybe instead of trashing out the people who write honest reviews. Maybe listen to what is being said. Also u assumed I was local, when in fact I am not. Best of luck keeping your business up and running. Also noted you gave know comment re the air con situatio, have a...
Read moreI want to bring to your attention the conditions of the Cairns Reef Apartment and Motel where we stayed from August 27th to September 1st, which we acquired through a travel auction website. The single bedroom apartment we rented, along with the adjoining motel room, was a complete disappointment. Despite having stayed in numerous apartments across Australia, this particular one was utterly disgraceful. The cleanliness was severely lacking; the microwave was caked with food, the bathroom was riddled with mold, and the washing machine looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years. The lounge chairs were old, badly stained, and clearly unkempt.
While I understand that some wear and tear is expected, the level of filth we encountered was absolutely unacceptable. We had to request a change of shower curtain and a re-cleaning of the apartment. If alternative accommodation had been available, we would have immediately moved out. The misleading advertisement on the travel auction site did not accurately depict the deplorable state of the apartment.
This experience was far from what was expected, especially during the holiday season. I trust that action will be taken to rectify this matter.
Warm regards, Marcus De SANTIS
I wasn’t going to reply as my review clearly states the fact but after seeing the managers reply inferring that I get some sort of satisfaction from bad reviewing.
I will continue to add to my honest review of the condition of the rooms which we rented through Travel Auction at the Cairns Reef Apartments and Motel. Here is a small sample of Photo’s from the motel room.

Read moreMy wife, Wendy and I stayed in a one bedroom apartment at Cairns Reef Apartments between 20th October 2012 and 3rd November 2012. Keryn and Paul are wonderful hosts who gave us great advice on tours, local hangouts for food and the like. The apartment was very well planned, functional, comfortable, quiet and private. There were no gold plated taps or 20 pillows on the beds, there were normal taps, comfy beds with 2 pillows per person, a very comfortable couch and also the chairs and table were a good quality and comfortable set. Shower had excellent water pressure. The ceiling fans were excellent as they kept the air circulating and cooled the room, rather than having an air con (which there are one in both the lounge and bedroom) freeze the air. The pool also offered a great attraction with it's bbq and fridge as well as seating. Both Wendy and I travel a great deal with work and often stay in 5 star motels that have the gold taps and 20 pillows but they have no character and they certainly don't have Keryn and Paul and they are what the real difference is. Cairns Reef Apartments felt like home as you were always greeted by name and discussion of each days adventure occurred. We have had a wonderful holiday and cannot reccommend Cairns Reef Appartments highly enough. It is not in the middle of town therefore it is not noisy, you are two blocks from supermarket and choice of restaurants and fish and chips. We will be returning. Steve and...
