We attended hotel de l'europe in bad gastein from 09/02/2019 - 16/02/2019 for a skiing holiday with my dad and younger brother. This is a very grand building that is now largely fallen into disrepair. We arrived at the reception (within ginger'n'gin) to be greeted with a warm welcome, upon arrival we paid the 1000 euros plus for 7 nights usage of the hotel facilities. We found the breakfast was average consisting of various continental meats and eggs alongside cereal, although, this can get boring towards the end of the week. The room was clean however could've used a lick of paint and the bathroom sink had a hole within it so leaked through onto the floor. Towards the end of our trip skiing we had seen that the Red Bull Playstreets 2019 after party was being held within the hotel rooms on floor -1 (we were located in room 104 floor 1). We were told we could attend this event with no advertisement of a 10 euro entry fee for guests not staying at the hotel. Upon the night of the Redbull after party we (as guests of the hotel) were hungry and wanted to enter the hotel restaurant ginger'n'gin for some food. We were aggressively stopped by a security guard who told us we would have to pay 10 euros to enter the reception area of the hotel! We walked through and demanded we spoke to the hotel manager, he aggressively pointed his finger in my dads face as we clearly stated that this was not stated to us upon arrival that we would be banned from the ground floor and using the hotel amenities we had paid for. After several minutes suffering abuse from the hotel manager he threatened to call the police and get his security to remove us as we demanded a one-night refund as we could not use the full hotel services due to the manager putting profits before service. The manager then told us to f* off and go to our rooms and ordered security to physically remove us. As a result we left upon our own free will to our room. At 3am the next morning we were rudely awoken by guests leaving the Redbull after party and trying to break into our hotel room, we looked outside and room number 106 had had its door handle ripped off by drunken guests trying to enter the locked room. Finally, we arrived back in the UK to an email from booking.com to be told the hotel manager had reported us as 'non-showing guests' to them, we can only feel that this was to try and receive double payment from booking.com and ourselves. We have forwarded our receipt onto booking.com as proof of payment and that we did indeed attend hotel de l'europe in bad gastein. This is a fraudulent claim and please be aware if you are booking this hotel! Service is shocking and the hotel manager should be removed from...
Read moreA two day stay with friends celebrating a birthday, saw me arrive on a winter's eve in January. After the downhill walk from Bad Gastein Bahnhof, we received our keys at the Gin bar situated below the hotel. The hotel is on a rock thus at -1 levels there is the ability to see of Gastein.||||The rooms, had the essence of imperial decor, large ceilings, double noise insulating doors and a quaint balcony to peer over the snowy road below. The bed and other furnishings were of oak and not in a used condition. The bathroom had been updated. The light bulbs in the main room, could have been increased in wattage, as it was rather dark in the evening.||||Walking around the other floors of the hotel, you can really feel the sense of a historic build in Gastein, it is rough on the edges, an aristocratic era of the monarchy, though when walking upon Marble floors and sitting down with a Portabello Gin & Tonic, looking over Gastein, you fall for the place.||||Restaurant & Gin Bar||The food in the hotel restaurant was of good quality and variety. From well prepared Sushi, to Gingerbread Mousse. The cocktails and gin on offer though was of real credit; prepared to a capital city standard and proper ice cubes (the ones that seem never to melt! )||||Breakfast||||Towards breakfast, it was a typical continental, tables were clean and service was good and efficient. However I believe the tea and coffee production facilities could seriously be improved with either coffee pots for each table, or a much larger scale coffee filter machine as the demand seriously outstripped supply.||||Pros:||Large Imperial rooms, with beautiful views, with good social entertainment venue.||Good connections to ski lifts.||Friendly and experienced staff.||||Cons:||The wi-fi I believe should be free of charge, as not only a typical norm in Europe, but as an economic complimentary service for the hotel. ||The coffee facilities...
Read moreUnusual hotel providing glamour of past years with a funky restaurant that combines orientatal food with a specialist gin bar and nu jazz music. Reception is in the bar/restaurant which has a club type feel if you arrive late. Don't be offput, although unusual it works just fine. ||The rooms are large and well maintained. No problems with heat as per other reviews. Independent heat control per room. Room was cleaned well. Bathroom is dated but in good condition. Staff were very friendly and helpful. ||Ate one evening meal in the restaurant / bar and it was fantastic, the best meal we had in Bad Gastein. Breakfast is a bit minimal but sufficient, fresh fruit and pastries would be nice. ||It is a 5-10 min walk to the slopes. Gets you warmed up ready for skiing. There's no spa in the hotel but there is a big one near the train bridge to the slope. Take trunks/swimmies skiing and go on the way back. Recommended, would...
